Another Drum Machine Question

    Hi guys and gals,

I checked through some old threads here but couldn't find the relevant info. Basically , is there a decent drum machine that will do electro type loops rather than "acoustic kits". For example, if you listen to Thom Yorke "Eraser", most of the drum loops sound nothing like acoustic kits. Would the Alesis for example have odd drum sounds rather than just the cheesey acoustic kit sounds?
Would I be better off just doing it on a laptop, and playing it back as a backing track?

Looking for early tv on the radio/massive attack/thom yorke (eraser)/NIN etc drum type sounds....

would like to use it live as well...
