Sorry to say but my pride and joy has to go, and I never got to know her. Expenses are piling up and I'm getting out of here. I'll be buying a cheap car to keep me going for a while (old scirocco probably... hey Im still a car enthusiast!) but anyway, here's the lowdown...

She's a 1978 Gt with a very tidy chrome bumper conversion done during the restoration the previous owner put her through. She's been regularly serviced and drive absolutely perfectly. I just serviced her 1000 miles ago. The engine pulls like a train and there's no knocks, bangs or rattles. The overdrive works perfectly and theres 4 new wheels (minilites) and tyres on her. Paintwork is tidy and the only rust is just at the bottom corner of the windscreen, but its a simple job to put right.

This is a car that can be used easily all winter. The heaters would scorch your socks when theyre up full and the demisters work great. Headlights are more than bright enough. The engine starts as easily when its cold as when its hot and it has a fully electronic distributor as well as an entirely overhauled fuel system - new fuel tank, new lines, reconditioned fuel pump, 2 reconditioned carbs. Everything about this car is spot on. She's not concourse, shes just a great fun little car to get out and drive in and enjoy in all weather. It even comes with an alarm, immobiliser and central locking!

I'm looking for around €6,500 for her but I'm open to offers.

Thanks! I hope so! When you think, its cheaper to tax, insure and buy than a well used Nissan Micra, and I know what I'd rather be driving! :D

I'm fairly sure you can't drive a classic car as you're everyday car, of course there are ways of doing it, but i think you have to have a policy on a non vinatge etc. car. Sure if it was like that, we'd all be driving them everyday:D

Really? I was fairly sure there was some insurance limited mileage policy's. Is 1978 classed as a vintage? And do you pay the 40 odd euro tax?

To get it insured as a classic and avail of the uber cheap insurance you need a second car and possibly limited mileage. You can also insure it as a daily driver though and then well... drive it daily i suppose :D

Ahh there's always ways around these problems. ;):D

All the policies I've ever had were limited mileage - but they never actually asked what the mileage was or how much you did in a year though so I can't see how they can enforce it!
I had a BGT as a daily driver for over a year with an 80 mile round trip each day because my sh1theap of an Astra blew up and I couldn't afford a new engine - have to say it served me well always started first time and never had a bit of trouble with it - just basic servicing and regular maintenance did the job fine.
Lovely looking car by the way - if only I had the bobs!

My brother had a limited mileage policy on his old MG, despite the fact the odometer had never worked. :D

Lovely looking car, combo775. I hope you get a decent price for her.
