okay so following on from the conversation about compression i had earlier i made a track.
i got it mixed down as best i can and tried to put a bit of compression on the master.
i want to send it away for mastering but i want to make sure that things are cool with it so if anyone spots anything thats seems out of whack or just some general tips on how to improve it that would be great to catch them before i send it off.

anyway hopefully i dont have a bad mix on my hands but i think i could probably get it a bit better(with your help, yes you)

You do have the option of sending the Un-Compressed version and the Compressed one to the Mastering House and let them decide which is more suitable.

i think the bassline needs a little work.. it seems to lose a little impact at certain points, jumps out at others and could probably do with a little leveling.

the kick is a little lost in it all, i understand the sound you're going for but i'd just add a touch of high slap on it.

overall the sound needs the slightest touch of dirt thrown at it (not much i just think its a touch too nice)

also the impact after the long break is lost due to some level issues (i think that big synth needs to be tamed a little touch)

yeah that kick needs a bit of click , also needs to be centered , its to far to one side .
and some of the parts are too peaky .

i like the vibe though , I take it its just a backing track , no melody yet ?

yeah,i addressed the kick issue i think, the bassline could just be the sidechain compression causing it to rise up and duck in certain situations.
as for the kick not being centred,im kinda lost on that.its right down the middle, cant realy do anything about that.
oh and its not a backing track,i take it you dont listen to alot of tech house:D

thanks again lads ill upload another version that adresses all the points you raised.
    hopefully sounding better

no im not familiar with tech house -

so the track wont have a melody ?
    ( or vocal etc )

im curious now - what does the track do - is it for dancing or some such ?
    ( showing my age I reckon ) .

its not sidechaining thats causing the problem. its certain notes. im listening in a treated room and im hearing it. try compressing the bass heavier to smooth out the transients.

okay so i took all of what people said into consideration.
i put the kick onto a mono channel(even though it was centred)so hopefully thatll take care of that.
gave the kick an 8db boost at 7.7 khz(for the click) and gave it a bit of a bost overall.
put some heavier compression on the bass(i did hear what you were talking about,i think its the fact theres two different basslines in there that was causing the problem)and also sorted out the volume change on the big lead synth :D

so anyway i hope its sounding better, and again want to thank you lot for the input.

tech house is mainly about a groove.it doesnt have the big obvious leads you find in other dance music(although it can)
the lead in my track would be the big synth,i only open up the decay and release on the build and then it snaps back into a short stabby melody but thats it really.
i though about vocals but i dont think it would improve them(although i did think about just a bit of skatting or the odd sharp rhythmic " uummm bahh":D)
but yeah its not as obvious as most of the stuff out there but in a club its just as exciting
theres obviously way better producers of it than me out there, this would be my first real attempt at it.
my other stuff is the big obvious leads and bassline type stuff but im just trying to do something different and hopefully learn something new :D
