Every cloud...

Was just wondering if anyone is actually looking like losing their job because of the recession? Is it just stories on the news or who here is actually being affected?

Personally it looks like mine will probably go sometime after Christmas. I work for a property development company in London who’s main business was buying houses redesign them so that they could be rented out for the best possible yield and revaluation. With house prices falling our investors are no longer buying property and so as one of the people who designs the houses that we are no longer buying it looks like I don’t have long left here.

I have survived two lots of redundancies going from a team of 8 then 4 and now its just me and the head of my department left and I don’t think they’ll keep us much longer unless the market picks up.

I’m in an okay situation though as I really want to go travelling so I’m saving money and if it happens then I will use it as my excuse to do something I’ve wanted to do for ages… Every cloud and all that.

Just wondering is anyone else in the same boat and if you are, are you going to use it as a way of doing something totally different or that you’ve always wanted to do?

So if I paid taxes, you'd be leeching off the welfare service?

I work for a company that makes money whichever way the economy is heading. They still try to use the "recession" argument though to avoid paying for stuff.

I work in the construction industry, and contrary to popular opinion, business is booming for us. It will most likely die down middle of next year, but we're grand for the moment.

It's going to be a glorious age for the repo industry.

Only thing that has affected me is the cutbacks on FÁS... I rely on them to provide me with staff. My secretary transferred to another FÁS project a week ago so it leaves me having to deal with a lot more admin work.

Stick a CV in your local unemployment office. Bound to be hiring. And they've got grade A proof that you ARE looking for employment...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Actually you work for a company that will end up making more money over the short term if a recession really hits. Then profits will slump and we just won't expand at the rate we were.

In case anybody really cares. Recession tends to hit the very low and the high income brackets. So I'm grand.

Yep... in fact I'm down quite a few people in the office at the moment for a variety of reasons.

It's just me and Blitzkrieg here most days now... now that's depressing!

I work in the 'credit checking' industry.. and we've had two rounds of redundancies a total of about 60 employees sacked. I'm ok so far.

Don't know for how long though.

    Feck it sure.
