I am curious about trying out linux. How could i put linux on a disc so i could boot up from the disc?? I don't want to install it without trying it out first and i figure this way is the safest way without altering my current operating system. I had a look on www.linux.com. If i download linux i'm assuming thats only a set up file? How could i put the operating system onto a disc from this? Also how would i go about partitioning my harddrive so i could have the choice to start up my current OS or linux? Any links or help appreciated. Cheers

You could download the Ubuntu ISO image and burn it to CD. You have the option of trying it out as a live cd i.e. it won't alter your current setup and everything just runs off the CD. A lot of modern distros offer this feature.

Yes, your best intro is Ubuntu.

If you have any problems making a Live CD let us know, but it should be fairly straightforward.
