we are looking at installing air tight membrane and have recieved a number of quotes for supply and install and they are quite high.

This is something we had not originally budgeted for but we are keen to use it as we can see the advantages.

Has anybody installed membranes themselves? Is is easy enough? If it is not done rights everywhere will that casue the whole system to be pointless if there is one weak point?

What permeability are you aiming for at the end of the project?

    Hi Jorus

I’m in the middle of building at the moment and I have gone for the Intello System. Now I can’t give you a price for the materials because i dont have it but I can give the labour which is 7k just to install it!!
My house is 2300sqft and it will take the guys approx 2 weeks to install hence the price.
I’m looking at getting it done cheaper but im a bit nervous doing this.
I had planned on doing it myself with my Grandfather and a friend but I done some research on it and its crazy amount of work.................to do it properly that is.
Where are you based? How much was the labour?

I used the intello system too and did it myself along with a lot of help from family. A relative works in the industry so was able to get advise on best way to do it. Was a lot of work but got airtight test done afterwards and achieved a good level.

One thing to watch is to make sure the plasterboard people do not damage it after all the work. I had a few issues with this resulting in me getting them to take off lots of slabs to ensure it was not damaged.

What was the permeability when tested?

I installed it and had afew labourers to help.

Once you understand that its meant to be "airtight" then its easy enough - staple, overlap, tape and mastic where required. We used the Pro Clima system and their mastic will stick to anything. The tape is also very good - in fact its almost impossible to remove.

Be particularly careful around external opes and rooflights. It can be time consuming but then 7K is well worth the effort!

    Hi Jorus
There is a good system supplied by Moy Isover ( available through any good builders merchants ) Try thier site and download literature very well explained and documented .www.moyisover.ie

You could do it yourself or they will send there representative to run through it will you.

What did you get for the 7K - what was the permeability result at the end of the project?
