The dangers faced by 'have a go heroes' is will documented and now we have another scenario which is sure to split public opinion. Obviously we dont know the ins and outs of what happened but self defence aside, could a persons right to detain under Section 4 cover this? The ingrediants as far as I remember are all present; arrestable offence, trying to flee or evade capture, seen by the civilian at the time.

The reasonable force we cant estimate at the moment but if your threatened with a knife then your allowed use one to defend yourself or so the courts have stated. I have highlighted what I see as important, what say the board? My own opinion is to hell with him but Im not very PC

"Two men are being questioned following the death of a man in a robbery at a supermarket in Killester in Dublin.

A man in his 20s, who gardaí believe was carrying out a robbery at the Supervalu store, was attacked and stabbed as he tried to escape.

It is understood he was one of two men, armed with a knife, who stole a quantity of cash from the store before attempting to escape.

They were followed out of the store by a number of people before being confronted at the back of the supermarket.

Gardaí were called to the scene at around 8.30pm last night and found the man with serious injuries near the supermarket car park.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he later died.

A post mortem examination will be carried out by the State Pathologist later today.

A man in his 30s was arrested last night and a second man, aged in his 20s, was detained this morning."

Exactly I agree ;),he was using a knife to threaten others so he was more than likely perpared to use it on someone if he didn't get his way so that's tough luck on his part that his own weapon was used against him.

Regardless of whether he was robbing a supermarket or not, he's dead and someone out there has lost a son/brother/boyfriend... ''to hell with him''? You should have a little more respect.

Without details, and the fact it is an ongoing investigation, I can't give much of an opinion. BUT, when I heard this story on the news this morning I couildn't help but think that those who followed them are nothing but fools. Why not just call the Gardai and wait, then check to see if everyone is ok? Or even jump in a car and follow the 2 gougers, reporting there whereabouts to Gardai? Rather than go after them vigilante style, and somebody ends up dead. Self defence in the situation above would not have come about if they had not pursued them in the first place.

That's my 2c, with the information to hand.

Doubt he would have seen it like that if he had have killed someone.

Doesn't matter how he would have seen it. He's dead. I'm just saying have a little more respect.

Ongoing issue, not a good idea to have this one running right now, people are free to open a thread on the general issues if the so desire.
