hey guys, i got a present of a free blackberry pearl, but im having problems with it. I solved the not charging issue but i cant get a sim to work.

It is branded Vodafone but wont work with a Vodafone sim. I presume it was a bill phone originally and was wondering if that prevents it from being used with a pay as you go sim. Phone seems in perfect condition and boots to menu fine, it allows me to use the phones features, just has an "invalid sim" message in the top corner. is this a matter of unlocking? or is it provider blocked?

    I can has solution?

It isn't a Vodafone UK phone by any chance is it?

ive just noticed that the voice dialling "speak a name or command" thing has an american accent.

so its pretty possible that its not an irish phone..

does that leave me shít outta luck?

that Voice is very annoying but its on all the phones.

Did a SIM come with the Blackberry? If so it might say one the card what network the phone was used on. Be it an Irish network or otherwise.

Just to be sure, go into Options-Advanced Options-Sim Card
    Type MEPPD
It will *not* appear on the screen, but type those letters anyway
That will bring up a list of the locks
It will more than likely show "Network" as Enabled
If so, it means the lock is enabled and you 100% need it unlocked
