Hi, I'm thinking of getting sky HD, but have a couple of questions

    1. Will the component leads give the same detail and sound quality as HDMI( my TV has only 1 hdmi)

    2. Can I get BBC Hd or other freeview HD channels without being subscribed to sky?

    Thanks.

1, yes i think so (sound via Optical)
2, you can get BBC HD and Luxe HD.

you will need a sky sub to activate the sky+ (at no extra cost)

Unless you get one of the first generation thompson boxes ( highly unlikely ) , then there is no component connection any more on the HD boxes.

None of the new HD boxes have component out.

If you are signing up to the €74.50/£75 offer with Sky, you must take the €15/£10 HD subcription for 12 months.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye out for a HDMI switching box.
If after a year I unsubscibe, can I still record onto the skybox?

only if you have a sub to sky package. (you need at least basic sub for sky +
you can unsubscribe from the HD and still use the sky+
