My creative zen vision m - 30gb broke recently cant be repaired. Looking for a replacement, Dont want another creative, and dont want an ipod. I know this rules out most of the market! Would like somehing smaller memory may 8 or 16 doesnt have to play videos. Only requirements is that its user friendly - musics easy to browse, drag and drop files etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dermot

You might want to take a look here too:

Plenty of non-Creative and non-iPods to choose from :). Cowon and iRiver are solid alternatives too and have some nice players. I've bought stuff from the site above with no hassle.

Yeah, the Sony players have fantasic sound quality and usually come bundled with very good earphones. I'd recommend them highly.

They've also been drag'n'drop for a good time now.

There's a few different model ranges (with different sized screens etc) so I'd say have a browse around and see what suits your needs/budget, but in general they're all superb players. I use a 16Gb A-729 and its one of the best portable music players ive owned.

They used to be, not anymore though... iriver make absolutely useless players now (e100, Lplayer, P10, T7....spinn seems to be a nice change, but way overpriced)

Cowon and Sony both rock these days though.

Bummer. I haven't used any new iRiver players, they used to be great... Fair enough then, Cowon are still a solid choice, though I've always liked their players' video capabilities over everything else. If the OP only wants an audio player, the Sony ones might indeed be a better fit...

I have been using a Phillips mp3 player for the last 2 years. Works with Windows Media Player so very easy to use

Yep, it's sad really (iriver) and unfortunately their craptastic products still sell thanks to their old reputation...

    Anyway, SONY ftw for audio...

Has anyone had a sony for over a year or two and still had no problems? my experiences with ipods are that they have a shelf life of just a year and then it goes tits up..

Sony players pretty much represent the highest quality DAPs around, they're the ones I hear the least amount of breakage issues about.. Having said that, I only had my A808 for 10 months before I sold it off... my mom got a S618 last xmas and it's been working problem free....

Thanks for the advice guys, Got a sony nwz-s639f in town, was 169 was 240 i think for one with a bigger screen + bluetooth. First impressions are very good, its a nice little player with lots of memory. Savage soud quality, and its nice to see an mp3 player come with a half decent pair of earphones.

Thought it best to add here instead of starting another thread on almost the same topic.

My mate (who believe it or not doesn't have any PC in the house  ) wants to get an MP3 player and doesn't like iPods. His needs are relatively simple - at least 16GB with an easy UI and the ability to drag and drop tracks to it as if it were an external harddrive. If it plays video too, that's a good bonus.

He's looking to spend around the €200 mark, so a Creative Zen seems like one option. Here's the Creative store page - seems like the Zen 16GB or Zen Mozaic 16GB are in the right ballpark. Is there any real need to go with the Zen X-fi version if he's unlikely to use wireless and does anyone have experience with that non X-fi 16GB model?

The Mozaics look a bit mad on the site - do they look better in the flesh?

Outside of those, it seems Cowon are the next best option, but what would be the model to go for in that price bracket with those requirements?

    Thanks

Creative models from the last 4-5 years onwards are only drag and drop with PC's with the right mtp drivers installed.

Again, for your mate I'd recommend the Sony mentioned above.
