Why am I getting different quality pictures for RTE 1 & 2 on indoor aerial?

I have an indoor UHF aerial in the bedroom pointing at Three Rock whch is just three miles from my house as the crow flies.

This evening I am getting a perfect picture and sound on RTE1 but RTE2 is terrible, the picture is in colour but low quality and the sound is very unpredictable, sometimes there's none and other times you can barely hear what people are saying.

Any explanations? I have checked the tuning on the TV and I am receiving both stations on the Three Rock frequencies, the aerial is correctly aligned (horizontal) and is pointing in the right direction. What makes it all the more bizarre is that occasionally the situation is reversed and RTE 2 is better than RTE1.

    Ditto- RTE1 is about 6/10, RTE2 4/10, TG4 4/10, TV3 1.5/10

This is from 3 Rock on analogue.
Digital (TV and Radio) fails completely depending on the weather conditions.
Looks like 3 Rock is on a lot less power than the original trial?

I "wanna" switch to analog. What I don't understand is: Does RTE broadcast their signal in UHF? VHF?
both? if so, which signal is stronger?
Analog TV is like black magic, I live outside Galway, I'm pretty sure there's no way a indoor aerial will suffice. I'm not even hoping to get TV3 or TG4, but RTE1 at least would be great.

In Oranmore, you'll be wanting to pick up the terrestrials from Maghera. RTÉ One and Two are on VHF (ch. 6 and 10 off the top of my head) while TV3 and TG4 are on 66 and 68 (UHF). Should be able to pick these up using an indoor aerial. The UHF ones tend to be that bit weaker mind.

Thanks for your answer ethernet. I tried a "amplified indoor aerial" a few month ago. The results were simply disastrous, not watchable anyway.
I'm moving to a new house next month. The landlord had NTL via MMDS. This might sound very silly, would I pick up am analog signal from a MMDS antenna?

You need a seperate antenna. Normally the guys installing the MMDS mast put a UHF/VHF antenna on it too.
