Where is Charlie Bird ? I have not seen him on the T.V. for some time. Is he still the R.T.E. Chief News correspondent ?

There was something in the paper today that he is to become the Washinghton correspondent in the New Year

yeah, he's been itching to go there for about 18 months. He's probably entitled to a bucketload of leave before he goes - can't imagine RTE sending him off and then saying oh by the way you can take your holidays now. Wouldn't be surprised to see him shouting at the screen during the US elections

George Lee bumped him off so he could boost his profile.

Hopefully has quit as a reporter. Annoying, overrated ego-maniac.

you really missed his reporting the past week or so since the budget !!!!!!

if you'll excuse the pun, but had to use the mention of George Lee to bring up the fact that the RTE's favourite prophet of doom has a Segway scooter - Pat Kenny mentioned it on his show yesterday.

Perhaps he knocked off the Bird in a nasty Montrose glide-by shooting?

Wow, that's an old thread to pull from the depths... how things have changed (and changed again) since this was started.

RTE had been the ratings thing like that for a while, adopted it after TV3 did it

Well one constant remains, the Charlie Bird Ego Trip rolls on. He discovered America and found out it was a big place then decided to trek off to the Pole and found out it was cold. Where next? First Irishman in space?

That would be bad form on Bull Cullen, he's been yakking on about being first Irish man in space for years.
