Your understanding of Indonesian blade is wrong. This is not a double edge sword its single edge golok blade, in silat we are taught how to use this blade very close to our body, its a drill call "washing the blade, ". Silat students blend their body with the blade when moving, these skills are dvelop over time and allows the silat student to fight in close. If you don't come from a silat background or something very similar than you prob no experience of how to use the blade, the way we do.

To answer your question on what level of tuition he has to be a teacher than I can answer you - 4 days a week for 5 and half years. In the clip Jon was using a live blade and I didnt see any parts of his body falling off. My teacher been using the golok this way and I have been taught how to use the golok this way both in single and double golok format.

So in conclussion if you are trained properly and develop your silat training correctly than you won't be cutting yourself. You are more than welcome to pop along to a class or workshop if you interested in learning how to use a golok.

    cheers

    Liam

Sorry that guy is washing himself with a blade  with his palm facing us,the viewer and his thumb facing the ground ie he's cutting him self .If thats how you have been taught to use a large kitchen knife, then you'es must be like the Peoples front assaination squad in the life of Brian :p 5 years to be able to learn how to cut yer self, with a large kitchen knife.Well I never

And I repeating myself to you, he is not cutting his arm, you may think what ever you want and make as many flipping remarks, as you want. What Jon is showing is a "Close" or "Zero range of using the blade, we are train to keep the blade close and not get cut. I understand you dont have the training or knowledge to do this, maybe instead of sitting in watching life of brian, go along to Jon class and explain your views to him or maybe post your own video.

Here is a clip showing Guru Cecep using the Golok, we censor the arms falling off:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sx2LlQXcRo or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ftzuIk9mb0

I think you should change your name to "Masterofcomedy":D As your only response to these posts is to make flippin remarks, which tbh only underscore the fact that you are talking about a subject that you have little or no understanding of. If you're not going to discuss items in a adult way, without every post being insulting to people, than frankly I'm not interested in discussion or explaining to you. In my signature you will see the classes that I teach at, come along.

    End of response

    Cheers

Hi Liam, thanks for that. Just for everybody out there, THE BLADE I WAS USING IN THE CLIP IS RAZOR SHARP AND IT CAN BE CLEARLY SEEN THAT I AM NOT CUTTING MYSELF, IF I WAS I AM SURE THERE WOULD OF BEEN A BIG BLOODY MESS! There are many styles and systems that I am not too fond of and I have seen many strange techniques but I would never make assumptions on something I don’t understand or have never studied. Some people these days are too quick to make assumptions on something they have no knowledge of. I teach my students to have respect, honour and integrity as these seem to be rare virtues these days as can be seen in some of the responses that I have received so far. I will happily answer anyone’s questions if they are willing to bear with me as I am not online every day but I will not waste my time in responding to silly remarks.

Thank you for the "Chop suey" remarks and curses it seems very few people from your background in martial arts can make a post explain your views, without some flippen remark thrown in.

Can you supply some evidence of your above statement to support your claims as one of my teachers is currently employed teaching armed forces i.e L.A.P.D ,Navy Seals, US Highway Patrol etc I have been employed in Ireland and UK to teach knife awareness and defences to secruity and armed forces and believe me thoes guys dont mess around..If your material doesnt work, they soon expose it.

I'm sorry darkman you may have had bad experiences in the past with your previous teacher, but you havnt train with me, so its very hard for you or near impossible for you to view what I teach or how I train my students. Silat and Eskrima are very much alive art and very functioning. All arts use some form of drills to develop different aspects of their student.

If you wish to discuss these matters in an adult way I'm along with Jon are more than willing. I'm very interested in your views and how you came to your conclussions.

    Cheers
