What you'll find in some technical courses are you have guys who are technically brilliant and are great for doing research. Their presentation and teaching skills may lag behind thoug. .But because of lack of funding they perform two roles. Researcher and lecturer. This is a pretty typical problem. I am sure the guy (I don't know who he is as I did Engineering) is perfectly qualified DCU has standards and regs for hiring...

There are a few lectures that probably shouldn't be there as they cannot teach imo...

LoL, I left the lecture today because I could not understand his writing or his language.

Its cool though, I dont mind, wont take me long to assimilate :)

Well firstly, English most likely isnt his first language you know.I had a bit of a laugh too but he knows his stuff and the past few lectures have been grand I thought.

You just need to be patient. He takes his time. I hate mathsx because she just flies through without pause! But again, the last couple were an improvement.

Chemistry has the best of the bunch

Ah its a pity, your a year late you missed last years lecturer{who most people will agree was a great lecturer) he really connected with the students and pretty much saved us from the "interdisiplinary science" module.(btw that only applies to 1st years in BT,CES,AC,GCB and AS)

Who taught it last year? It's probably ok to say their name if you're complimenting them ;)

Dr. James Fryar. Such a nice guy and a good lecturer. really made the physics last year easier. can't say the same for the 2nd semester lecturer though(think australian)

I like the physics lecturer. Sure he may be going slow but he's explained everything pretty well.

Omg the physics lecturer is so bad. I didnt do physics for the LC and im completely lost and this teacher isnt doing me any good. He frustrates me to the point I want to leave the class and he cant answer a question properly to save his life. His english just isnt good enough. Im positive he knows his stuff but he cant teach! Physics is a subject you need to be taught and is very hard (at least for me) to learn from the book.

Hi, I'm in 3rd Year A.S - I might be able to help you with the physics, with grinds. Let me know.

James Fryar was always good. Used to have him for tutorials when he was still a postgrad. The Australian you're thinking about is probably Paul Swift. Never had him for lectures, but he was always helpful and good at explaining things when he was in charge of the lab sessions.

Leave Kobiyoshi alone! He's just misunderstood..... literally...

He may not speak english but at least his notes aren't in chineese - then we'd be truely ****ed!

Does Enda not take physics classes for the 1st years for CES/BT/AS/AC/SS, etc..., anymore?:(

It was Enda when I was a first year and he was great, James Fryar is dead on too.
If you're having trouble with the material make sure to go to all the tutorials. Always tempting to skive off, but they can be a big help.

The last two or three lectures have been grand in my opinion. I didn't do higher maths or physics so I was seriously worried about this module after the first couple of lectures, but in the last few I think the material is getting covered slowly but surely. In any case, if you're worried about this, sit up near the front so you can hear everything that's said, bring the notes along and take down any extra info he gives out. You'll be sorted then!

James Fryar was a legend when i had him last year, always up for a laugh but got done to the lecturing when he had to. Always remember the time he told us how to make the perfect paper aeroplane in T101 and then we all threw them at him, good times :D

Paul Swift is grand. Had him last year and both semesters this year, he just gets on with it in first year but when you have him in second he puts more effort into it and is alot more personal (probably due to the smaller classes), nice guy though.

He is probably not qualified to lecture you don't need to be, they're not judged on their lecturing ability when they join a department they're judged on their ability to research and bring funding in with them.

I know how you feel but you just have to suck it up and teach yourself the subject, this isn't secondary school where the teacher holds your hand.

So who's sitting in interdisciplinary science looking at boards?
