I'm 22 and I'd still say it'll be a few years if ever until I can get somewhere near proper coverage.

I'm not sure of exactly when. Sixteen, seventeen at the latest as I had an actual beard at that age.

up until this year, my every attempt has come out looking pretty p*ss poor

but this current one is actually looking alright, but I guess I have been taking better care of it.

    I was 21 when I started growing mine. :)

Give it a go and see how it comes out, after 4 or 5 weeks you should know whether it's a disaster or good. :p

Aye, it really does differ greatly from person to person.

22 and can't grow one. Have got short sideburns and a soul patch/goatee. Everywhere else is patchy to say the least.

a friend of mine managed to grow a spectacular beard just near the end of first year,i would say he was about fourteen

me its just sideburns and a goatee

facial hair started appearing at about 13 but it was only last year when i grew my first beard as then i was satisfied that everywhere joined up and wasn't going to be a patchy piece of crap.
some of my friends have grown terrible beards where they were wonky and patchy so that was my motivation in beard growth. not to look like a twat. I could have grown a goatee / soul patch/ tache combo ages ago but i'd feel like an idiot growing them together and not sculpting them out of some description of full beard

On my first attempt, aged 20. Am presently bearded, and its fairly thick after two months (needs a trim tbh) but for some reason the growth on my cheeks is much slower.

i could grow a moustache within a week, any time iv tried to grow a beard(or just let it go) it looks stupid coz i hav a moustache and the rest of my face just cant catch up.. im 22 btw and my father has a moustache, i know that technically doesnt matter but i really think it does somehow

My dad i've never seen without a full grown beard and yet i can't grow one for s**t!

I can get the usual dodgy knacker tache going on and a bit on my chin and below my side burns but the rest is only the odd hair.

Started doing smigs/goatees when I was in 3rd year of school. Suppose I was about 15. It was a valuable tool for purchasing alcohol.

16 is when I considered myself as having one, but looking at my passport photo which is me at 17, I must say it pales in comparison to the magnificent Kaiser Wilhelm I've got now.

Cant seem to get that vertical join from the upper lip to chin to grow :(

I'm destined never to have a beard

Try shaping it in such a way as to make it a feature? Or go for a tacheless style? Don't be disheartened!

Since I was about 15, I looked so old at that age that in one photo my friends cousin asked 'Why's your dads friend in the picture?' Dads friend was me.

Haven't changed much since then though I look more or less the same years later, but for some annoying reason that tiny 1cm joining mustache and smig/goatee won't grow....not a single hair. Strange, that.

Bout 11, by then I was my full adult height, weight and had my wisdom teeth, so bit of an exception. Although a brother was similar.

At 23 I'm not even close yet. Can't see myself ever being able to grow one.

pretty good sideburnd at 13 full beard by 14, it was great, except for getting the bus & stuff like that when being under 16 is useful

One of my mates was like that. Full beard at Junior (nee Inter) Cert. Unfortuantaly he's now in his thirties and he has a full body beard. He has more hair on his back than the whole of The Dubliners beards put together

I'm 19 now and I'm not happy enough with the shape to leave it long enough to grow. Is there a name for the area between your chin and neck? Anyway if the rest of it would grow like it does there, I'd be a happy bearded camper.
