How long is a piece of string?

It depends on a fair few things. Not least of which is what you mean by a 'basic' website.

Very roughly, I'd say anywhere from €600 (very basic) to a few grand (possibly still "basic" but with extra care, attention and thought).

It depends who's building it. Anywhere between €0 and €4,000 for a basic site.

    Stage 1 : Define "basic".

This has been done to death on other threads here OP just have a look back but you will find the same answers, your best bet is to put together what you want and geta few quotes..stick a post up on www.adverts.ie if you are looking for someone to do it.

.ie is well worth the extra couple of quid. It's recognisably Irish, there's more protection against the scum who register similar domains or even expired domain takeovers, plus there's more flexibility when it comes to hosting because you can (if you want) host it outside Ireland without affecting your "pages from Ireland" status.

It depends on who you get to make it.

Wages are a lot higher in Ireland, so if you outsource the work (e.g. using www.scriptlance.com) you'll get it done much much cheaper.

The main disadvantage of outsourcing is it is harder to sue the contractor as they live miles away somewhere, but it is unlikely you're going to need to sue someone over a $200 website.

Whats the best way then to market yourself if you work from ireland then - Only in the last year I have started doing my own stuff even though I have been working in web dev for the past 7 years. I use word of mouth for most of it but is there something that I am missing marketing me/ company?

Could you try targeting a specific market, e.g. you develop websites for boutiques or cafes?

but then are you not cornering yourself to only one part of the market? I'd hope to show that I can do all sorts of sites? I dont do one type of site per say - the way I see it all sites just need a look not a category?

Well, I just know from a couple of marketing books I've read that people who focus on niche markets tend to do better than people who focus on everything...

You could try creating a few different versions of your service, you know, the company which specialise in boutiques, the company which specialises in cafes, the company which specialises in gyms, etc.
