Install Ubunto on my machine last week, Finally got the dvd player to work on it. Only thing is that i need to know if IE 6.0 can be installed on it, as it is a requirment when trying to accessing 4OD (channel 4 online video site). Does any1 know ? I really dont want to go back to winxp, It usually crashes bout once every 3 weeks for me.

IE6 can't be installed on Unix. You can get IE5 for Unix, but I've no idea if it would be of any use.

There's probably a port however that someone's written at some point.

I don't know if 4OD is using directx (which is why you would need IE), but I'm sure someone has figured out a way of implementing directx for Firefox or Konqueror.

Having looked at the 4od website, the real problem is that that 4OD media player is a windows executable:

    http://www.channel4.com/4od/installer/channel4_on_demand.exe

IE or not, you won't be able to install it on Unix.

Best bet is to set up Vmware on your machine and run a WinXP system which you can boot up when you want to use 4OD.

You could try IEs4linux. I used it a while ago for accessing IE only sites. There are instructions for installing it in ubuntu here.

There is also a firefox add-on called user agent switcher that can mask firefox as Internet Explorer, could be worth trying out...

    You could steal buy this:

    Works a treat.

Try Opera. That can identify itself as IE in the preferences. Might work.
