This is more of a long term bargain alert rather than a new one, but Dunnes Stores does 2lt of still water for a measly 27 cent. Where I live the water is crap so we rely on bottled water and at this price cost isn't a factor. I only put this up now as a friend couldn't believe how cheap it was as he wasn't a Dunnes shopper, but is now going to make a stock pile trip to his local one.

Anyhow, just thought I'd point it out for anybody who uses a lot of water, but doesn't want to spend a fortune.

Really, because I checked that out a few months back and couldn't see anything as cheap. Is it a recent price change?

And here's me paying €2 for a bottle of volvic every day like a sucker.

It's been 27c for 2l bottles for years now in dunnes and tesco.
also lidl & aldi have the same price but you need to bulk buy (6 x 2l).

Everybody should know the price of basic consumables like this!

Lidl is 36 cent and I refuse to pay it - how sad!

I don't think the Dunnes or Tesco water is mineral water, whereas the Lidl bottled water is mineral - it's worth checking out... there's supposedly a difference.

you're probably right, but I don't really care, i just want water and hate the taste of it out of the tap! i'm a total hypocrite though cos i'll run into my local shop on the way to the gym and pay 1.50 for a lickle bottle!

actually I read the other day that the minerals in mineral water makes your body take longer to absorb it - how true that is, I don't know!

dont see the point in paying for bottled water unless ur water is sh1t or its mineral water. Its ridiculous how many irish companies were selling glorified tap water for ridiculous amounts of money. if the lidl water is mineral water for 9cents extra, they get my vote.

    Volvic or evian ftw.

I for one love the water in my house, wouldn't go near riverrock, tesco water doesn't taste great either. Probably filled in the back on the taps there!

didnt the last incarnation of water that coke were responsible for get dropped off the market when it was found out they were basically filling it from the thames?

    You mean Dasani?

Poor old Coke spent billions building up the brand and it's now a dead duck - on this side of the pond, anyway, it was still on sale in the US after their unfortunate incident in the UK.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasani

Read further down the article about how their (US-based) advertising agency introduced it into the UK referring to it as "bottled spunk" or featured the tagline "can't live without spunk". After a start like that, you'd think things couldn't possibly get worse... but they did - Coca-Cola's tap-water "purification" process accidentally introduced bromate into the water, and, as it's carcinogenic, they had to withdraw 500K bottles from the UK market and shortly afterwards pulled the entire brand from Europe.

Laugh? I nearly bought a round. :pac:

    thats the one!

deep river rock i just wont drink. it tastes vile! ballygowan is only mildly tolerable, if theres no foreign option.

They have Dasani where I'm at right now (Atlanta) - but since Atlanta is the birthplace of Coke I doubt we have any other kinds of water.

I miss the good tasting tap water from back home (Atlanta tap water tastes way too chlorine-y)

I like the tesco sparkling water for 27c. I don't mind paying for the bubbles but why still?

Well it seems the bottled water market is hotly contested based on how close the prices are. As I said tho', my water supply is as shite as it comes, so for me its a cheap solution provider.

Anyone living in Galway city or Ennis and surrounds will know that, disgraceful as it is, the local authorities seem to have given up on trying to make the domestic drinking water safe. People are paying taxes to fund basic services like this, and end up queueing in Dunnes, Lidl, etc., glad of "cheap" drinking water they are forced to buy. I know of many houses where they have to use this type of bottled water for rinsing when brushing their teeth! And anyone with a baby in the house will not risk using anything else. It really is madness in 2008 in Western Europe, that this goes on...
This is the type of "reassurance" that is provided.
    <Back on topic...>

Thanks to the OP for spotting it anyway - unfortunately many people have no choice but to be glad of it!

I used to work for a bottled water company and some of the own label water is actually bottled by some of the branded waters in Ireland so your getting the same water for a fraction of the cost. I would suggest buy mineral water rather than spring too because it is more natural and not treated in any way.

You don't have to bullk buy. The plastic should be half cut open for you to pull a bottle out. If it's not, then open the plastic yourself.

Unless it says "multipack", "6pk" or "24 cans" etc, it can be bought in singles.

I see that Tesco Value water has gone up to 49c for 2l
Since our water is continously freezing in pipes, where is the best place to buy bottled water these days?

That's not a bad price, Dunnes are doing 2x5Ltrs bottles for €4 today.

Tesco is doing EVIAN water in multipack at 2.09Eur for 6x1.5l.
That works out to about 23 cent per litre
And best thing is it is not "tesco" brand..

Go quick before they run out of stock!
