Hard Drive nearly full - upgrade help?

    Hi all,

I have a 250GB Hard drive in my PC and I recently upgraded it to XP SP3 and this ate up nearly 3gigs of space. I now as a result have only just slightly over 2gigs of space left on my C disk partition which is only 48Gigs and I have alot of Music and Photos stored on it.

On my D: 2nd Partition I have 188gigs sitting Idle.

I wonder Is it possible to somehow rejig the partition and transfer say 50gigs of the free space to my C Disk which is nearly full? And how risky is it? I will have to backup everything first as I have Norton Ghost 12.0 and a 250GB external hard drive.

It is only a stop gap measure to keep me ticking over as I intend to renew some parts and upgrade to Vista sometime in December (nerdy xmas pressie to myself!). I have a gig of RAM and a 3.4Ghz Proccessor Pentium 4 single core and my Dell 4 year warranty will soon be out of date in December so I am going to breathe new life into the ol' gal with 4gigs of Ram, a new processor (very fast), a 500Gb hard Drive, A high end HD capable Graphic's card and a Blu-Ray burner plus a new snazzy case to keep the lot.

It is drastic surgery but I have to keep it modern or would I be better off just building a new one from scratch and keeping the old dell as an XP machine?

With those kind of costs, I'd just build new and leave the old one as your spare with XP.

Why not just move the Music and Photos off the c: drive and free up the space that way, the My Documents folder can be moved anywhere you like, just right click, select properties and first tab has options to move it where you want.
