Cold weather reminder guineapigs and rabbits

Just a reminder as the cold, wet weather's coming in (well it never really left lol).

    Some tips.

Ideally move rabbits and guineapigs (not housed together obviously) into the house, if not possible into a warm shed or garage. All else fails ensure all bedding is warm and dry and housing is covered with a hutch hugger or insulated etc. Ensure housing is off the ground. If housing is directly inside a run put something like blocks underneath the housing to ensure it's not in direct contact with the grass/ground.

Add extra bedding in the evening the use of vet bed and snuggle safe heat pads can help. Bit of extra food extra veggies.

If your pet appears off their food, has discharge from their nose, looks generally unwell, sneezing, coughing, breathing is laboured etc take straight to the vets.

Once or twice a week a vit/mineral added to water may help but if the animals diet is well rounded it may not be needed.

If you haven't a hutch hugger, blue tarp is affordable and available in Argos and most hardware stores same thing used to cover cars. This can be placed over hutches and runs and weighed down and/or tied down to prevent rain getting into it and shelters from the wind.

Hope these tips help and lead to some guineapigs and rabbits having a warmer more comfortable winter this year.
