    Arrrggh

I finally got into the CS computer room today, LG12, and went on a computer and it wouldn't let me on the internet! It'd let me on to the TCD site fine, but nothing else. I did that quiz thing last week from my home computer and passed, which is supposed to give you permission to go onto external websites...?

    What's the problem?

Those PCs are on the CS network, so it's a different password than one you got at registration. I can't remember when I was given mine, all CS students get registered for it automatically. Check your email, you log-in info might be there? Failing all that, email help[at]cs.tcd.ie

EDIT:Hmm, i appear to be speaking out of my ass: just looked up my first few emails:
A computer account has been set up for you,
on the machines in the Computer Science Department,

    username: you.php
password: the password you received at registration

    Yep, sorry, ass-speak :)
Did you authenticate with the proxy? When you start firefox a username/password box comes up, you have to put in your login(again) to get access to anything beyond the TCD network. That sounds like the problem

Karl would it not be an idea to take your username down off boards? ;)

Meh, I can see the usernames of everyone registered on the CS network in about 2 seconds on one of the Debian machines in LG12. :)
But I'll take it down(can never be too careful), copy-and-pasted too quick;)

not even for the fact of having your tcd email, but for having your real name :)

Quite a fail on my part :p
But let's be honest here, I was subconsciously hoping one of the many, many hot women here on boards would spot their chance to stalk this fine piece of man-candy. Alas you caught me out just as my plan came to fruition.
But they still have their chance! B]NSFW[/BHere's why.

Well I always put in my username and password whenever it asked me to....I can't remember if a box came up, but if it did then I would have put in my details.

I'l have a look again today sometime during my amazingly long 3 hours lunch from 11 til 2.

I had the same problem too.
    - Do you know when ya change your original password for myzone, email and logging on to the normal computers? Well that doesnt update the password on The CS network. You still have to use the orignal one you get at registration.

    Change it here : https://www.cs.tcd.ie/cgi-bin/password/change-password.cgi

RE the general interweb, I signed up for the o2 HEAnet 3G thing. It's working quite well here in my kitchen in Halls. Works .. averagely.. on the bus. Not great.

    Hmmm....

Not the worst deal around but with don't see that it's worth it seeing as you've free internet in halls and in college anyway.

Yeah I know but I was thinking I could use it on the train home to Cork.. not sure if it'll work. It's still handy to have around anyway, and the price is pleasingly cheap.

you have to set your browser to detect local proxy settings on the CS network.
