Two Sky plus boxes.

In my house in London I have a Sky plus box in the front room with an ROI subscription. This is linked up to the bed room via magic eye. Now I am considering getting UK sky plus bundled with my Sky phone and sky broadband. The new UK sky plus box would go in the bed room. I would hide my Irish sky box when the installer comes.

Now the problem I think I'll have is this. I want to keep the current set up that links my Irish box from the frount room to bed room. But there will be conflect with the remote in the bed room between the magic eye and the UK box. Are there any ways of getting round this.

Yeah, there would be conflict alright, as all Sky+ boxes, regardless of manufacturer, all use same remotes.

Hm, not sure how you'd get out of that one.

I think the only option is to take the cable out of the magic eye when using the Sky box in the bedroom.

Theres a very simple solution to your problem, you would need to install your new box into a press or something similar so that its infra-red is blocked, then you would run a cable from the rf2 of that box into a unit called an SPC4, and put your exsisting cable coming from downstairs into its second input. These are made by Global communications. You can then program the Two different remotes to change only one box so you can mark then 1 and 2 etc throught the use of a magic eye...

I have included a link for the product should be plenty of stockists in the UK, I have used this product quite extensively and highly recommend it.

    Hope that helps

That's an excellent idea. Never knew such a thing existed.

Sounds like the only solution so.

Or for a free solution you can move your magik eye to one corner away from the new sky+ box and just block the infra red signal to the sky+ box with your hand. Will save yourself £33 + cables and the effort of having to

Lol you cheapskate..... I'd rather spend the few quid otherwise you will be swinging the remote from side to side to change the box you want lol...and twist your neck in the process.. I came across the SPC4 by complete accident but was amazed at how easy they were to setup, and have since installed quite a lot of them, mostly in bookies where they have a number of sky boxes..... I really like the Global equipement as they seem to have a solution to just about everything possible

i presume same prob. wouldnt apply if it were a sky plus box and a normal sky box as the remotes are on diff. frequencies.

aside, can the following be done:

split one of the cables comong fromthe sky plus box and send to another tv.then wud i be able to see diff channel than on the sky plus box.

ie. i presume both cables carry all channels?

oh, i just realised, must go to box first then out! (card)

so ipresume no way to output from sky plus box so diff channel can be viewed than on the sky box?

    Interesting bit of kit steveon.

Another solution I've seen is the One-for-all remote control converter - this turns most remote controls into short range wireless transmitters. All you need to do is cover the IR bulb in the remote with a bit of tape. Argos sell them for about €35.

If you have a Sky Plus box and a standard box, Global also have a product available called a Global Combiner, which will allow you to combine the output's from Rf2 together so you can control either box in another room via a magic eye, this is a truly fantastic product when combined with a terrestrial aerial can provide 6 channels going around the house which is useful when there a large number of family members.

I enclose a link for such a product

Amm, no sorry. Your talking about RF output. All the posts are talking about IR.
Of course he will have to do what you say above to eradicate RF conflict but that wont change IR input.
