    Hi

I am looking for digital photos (landscapes/townscapes/sports etc.) that have a particularly Irish flavour that I can print on canvas and then market through a number of different distribution channels. Obviously a revenue sharing agreement would be reached.

You're looking to buy the copyright of the images or looking to pay royalties for each photograph sold?

    Please tell us more Simon......

I would want to pay a royalty on each photo sold.

I am looking to get together a portfolio of work that can be printed on canvas and sold through the internet and also through tourist/gift shops etc. The target consumer is the Irish person abroad who would like a gift from home or the tourist.

Are you looking for John-Hinde-type-Oirish images, Modern Ireland, recognisable landscapes, or a bit of everything?

There are two separate but related markets that I would be targetting. The tourist might go for the Oirish whimsy, but the expat would be more likely to want something that s/he has a connection with eg. a picture of the main street in their hometown etc.

I suppose because the choice of a photo or piece of art is so subjective I would be looking to feature a bit of everything and can let market decide.

What kind of royalties are you talking about?

A percentage of the sale price. The exact percentage would be subject to negotiation but, for simplicity, it would be the same irrespective of the size or cost of the photo.

I would be happy for some feedback as to what people would think of as a "fair" percentage. Obviously the photographer should be rewarded for his skill, but I also need a fair return on the printing, varnishing, packaging and possibly framing of the photo, together with the expense of advertising and building a sales network.

Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself, your organisation, marketing and sales plans etc.

I, for one, would be reluctant to use a "sales" agency that I didn't know anything about .

I would be interested but I need to know more about you/company and what % for me

Here is just a little information about myself. I am businessman based in Portarlington who has over twenty years experience in building businesses in the hospitality (pubs and hotels) and IT businesses. I believe that I have seen an opportunity in this industry that I would like to exploit.

Just to be clear I am looking to exploit the opportunity and not the photographers. I do not believe that business is a zero sum game where everytime someone wins someone else loses, but is based on mutual benefit where working together we can make more than working separately. I think that there are many great photos out there that are not generating any income for photographers because they do not have access to the marketplace. I want to bring them to the market to make the photographer, (retailer) and customer happy whilst making a profit for myself.

The distribution channels that I am going to use are too commercially sensitive to go into on an open forum, but they are not rocket science, I just have the skills and experience to open them up. With regard to the percentage royalty, this would be subject to negotiation, but I am not in the business of trying to rip anyone off, I want anyone that I work with to be happy with the deal.

Finally, I use the internet to contact potential suppliers like yourselves but I would not expect any deals to be done without proper face to face meetings, negotiations and references on both sides. I am looking for partners who would show a long term interest in this venture.

If this is of any interest to you please let me know and we can arrange a meeting.

On one hand i think this might be useful to users of the forum that may wish to sell their images via your service but on the other i think you've hijacked someone else's thread and there's probably a thin line between this and what would be considered spam. I'm sure it wasn't intentional and is intended as beneficial to forum users but perhaps a read of the charter followed by a chat with a moderator before jumping in with commercial sites would be the order of the day.

BTW - glad to see an Irish Stock site. Often there are users reporting frustration with the likes of iStock etc..., and if like pix.ie you can bring an irish flavour (participating with forum users here like marcus from pix.ie) with your business then you probably will get support from the community. Good luck with your venture.

The previous to AnCatDubhs has been deleted for spamming their business.

Thanks for the kind words! you might want to edit the URL from your reply in case some over-zealous Moderator deletes it because you mentioned a Commercial Website :)

I agree about i$t0ck, I sold thousands and only made hundreds. I made more from 1 book cover than I made from all of these guys.

Advertising your website when you should be paying boards.ie,as you will be getting extra visits etc

The difference is AnCatDubh contributes to this forum and does not have any commercial interest], you on the other hand have so far contributed nothing and attempted to advertise your site in your first post. I suggest you re-examine your reasons for posting here.

If you are looking for free advertising then please do not bother posting again. If you want to contribute to discussion then by all means read the rules, do not spam your site and post.

I guess i wasn't promoting anything(!) - but not to worry. Could i suggest that you'd have a word or two with some of the moderators (they're nice peeps really and a deleted post isn't anything to worry about - just a blip!) - the issue of stock photography comes up from time to time on the forum. If you had an outlet for photographers to be aware of there may be scope to work up a reasonable post which would be agreeable to all concerned or even a link in the FAQ's. Again, great to see it available and good luck with it.

Cheers for the warning..Supose the post was OT???
I was only trying to help you out

    How was that backseat modding?

Is Pix.ie not a Commercial Website? are you going to remove the referance to Marcus's (Excellent) website?

If someone asks where is the best website to buy a camera are we not allowed to answer?

I don't need free advertising, I pay Google a lot of money for my ads to appear on Boards.ie but if you wish I take them off.

It wasnt back street modding but in fairness I have a history of back street modding so I can understand, there has been an retraction of the infraction!

Right... I think there's quite a few crossed wires in here.

IrishStockPhoto, Boards.ie does not allow users to sign up for the sole intent to plug their website - If you wish to contribute to the forum, by all means do, we'd be more than happy. However, signing up, and posting your website first thing will usually end in your getting in trouble - I'm sure you can understand why.

You say you already pay Google for your add's to appear on Boards, then you've done the right thing, if you read the charter, spamming your site is a different story. Looking at Marcus & Pix.ie, Marcus contributes constantly to the forum, and helps people with their problems on his site - He's become a part of the community.

If someone asks where to buy a camera, by all means, answer - But I think we both know there's a difference between that, and plugging your site on the first post.

Now, I'm going to be an overzealous moderator, and lock this thread, purely because I don't see it going any further, in any way, shape or form. If you've a problem, PM any of us mod's, or pop over to the Helpdesk (In the Sys category).

Lets make this clear. Your first post on this forum was spamming your business. You have made no other contribution other than PIMPING your business. Pix.ie has been a contributor for quite a while and normal users are free to make honest recommendations of whatever websites they use.

So far you contribution has been to pimp your business and then bitch because we didn't let you continue to do it.
