Looking for help trying to depict the gardai accurately in a work in fiction

The setting is Mage: The Awakening for anyone who is familiar.

    Simply put

    Mages: Do Magic
Sleepwalkers: Can see magic without the magic going awry
Sleepers: If they see magic it goes awry

There are very few mages, a good few sleepwalkers, everyone else is a sleeper.

The story is that one particular mage with the capability of manipulating minds creates a section of the gardai for the purpose of being able to avoid sleepers happening upon magic. His goal is to fill the section with sleepwalkers.

Now I don't know anything about the gardai, but these guys would have to be able to take over any investigation at will and essentially be able to overrule anyone in the gardai on anything.

    Example situation:
Several people have strange burn marks all over their bodies and the cops on the scene have no clue how this could have happened, there is no sign of fire on their clothes. They call it in, the call gets redirected to the section that deals with the unusual stuff, they turn up, the gaurds on the scene are told to keep their distance. The section investigate the scene, decide that it must be supernatural, call up the mage, mage comes and investigates, later bodies are taken away and no one in the gardai ever sees them again. The Gardai on the scene are made to forget everything they saw and everone continues on as normal.

I imagine the terrorists unit or drugs squad can do something similar.
Anyone able to shed any light?

Deadwood picks up the phone "F**ked Up Sh1t Department, Gda Deadwood speaking, how may I be of assistance?"
His eyes dart around the room as he makes hurried notes on the kitchen wall. He's been here a hundred times before but something in his groin told him this day was going to be like no other. On reflection though, the feeling in his groin was probably that reheated sausage roll he found in his locker.

"Don't touch anything," he barked "I'm on my way!" He slams the phone down on the cradle of the wall phone, it falls, he tries again, it falls again "for f**ks.." as he lifts his considerable weight off the floor and waits for the blood to drain from his face and tucks his shirt back in.

After spending ten minutes looking for the keys, which were under the paper all along, he runs out...most of the way to the yard. He comes back to get the lads to move the branch car which they'll do after the phonecall one of them is just about to make.

After taking a meal break and stopping at Aldi for the outdoor sockets he needed and is amazed at how they sell this stuff for only 13 cents and it's made in the same factory as the branded stuff, you know, it's just people are snobs when it comes to labels.

He rolls up to the scene. It's an emergency so he parks in the wheelchair space when he gets the old woman to vacate it.

"So, first things first lads," he sighs to the guards inside who have discovered the satellite tv in the bedroom "are ye sure this isn't in the B-District?"

    That's the Trailer.

Gda Deadwood has proven he's a member of AGS' X-files study in the depot.

Okay, okay. Lest there be some confusion, I should state that I am not the Commissioner.

Could the o.p. explain, to an elder lemon, in lemons, laymans terms what exactly is Mage: The awakening?

Recognition at last. Now, if you're a benevolent ogliarch with an interest in publishing i'm your man. I've no pride and will work for food.
