As World Toy Camera Day is on 18th October this year, we are planning to run a toy camera event on this date in Airfield Trust, Dundrum. Would any members be interested in attending?

We will have a few spare toy cameras to give those of you who don’t own any a try.

Start time will be 11am and you will have a few hours to walk around the Grounds of Airfield (www.airfield.ie) and shoot some film. There is lots of subjects to choose from such as plants, animals, old buildings and vintage cars.

After lunch you will have the opportunity to develop your films and we can show anyone who hasn’t done developing, how to do it. If the films are not dry before you leave, we will post them to you.

The only cost to you is the €6 entrance fee to Airfield and €10 to cover the Darkroom costs.

So if you want to give that Holga, Diana or Lubitel a go, this is your chance.

    Peter

    Wow, I'd love to.

I'm working on making my zone plates at the moment anyways, so this could be a great chance to test'em out! I know at least one other chap that would be interested too!

    Gotta find that Holga now!

What a swizz, a photographic event that I'm actually interested in is happening and I'm not going to be in the country...

This sounds like a fantastic idea, I'd love to do it. Sadly Saturday is my "100% lumped with the baby" day. Airfield is all gravel right ? Ever try to push a buggy around on gravel ? I got bogged down in Iveagh gardens a few weeks back. It took several strong men to free the buggy, while I wept bitterly from the sidelines. Never again !

I just wanted to confirm that we will only be able to develop B&W film on this day. You can of course shoot colour but would have to get it developed elsewhere.

Toy camera? What? Does somebody have a problem with my Pentax? :D
If I wasn't at some castle in the midlands, I would attend.

    Good question...

Can you bring any film camera along or does it have to be a toy camera??!

it's a world toy camera day event, why would you even consider bringing anything else?

OP, would crossprocessing be on the cards too?:D

One piece of advice - don't tell Elven that Holga is a toy(camera). Ever! :pac:

it's not a toy, it's a piece of plastic with one decent sized hole in it and then lots of tiny ones everywhere:p

Sounds like fun, actually, and cheap. Gives me an opportunity to whip out the old Lubitel. But before I do, does anyone know anything about 'baffling' the insides? Since I bought it, I realised there's manky light reflections inside it, seems to bounce off the roller.

    Any ideas?

If you don't own a toy camera then feel free to use your ordinary camera. My only concern is that depending on how many people turn up, I may have to give preference to the toy camera people when developing as we only have a certain amount of equipment.

I will have a few spare toy cameras to give out and maybe others can let you shoot a roll with their camera.

If you want to shoot colour, then no problem, use whatever camera you like.

That all sounds fair to me. Can't see myself buying a lomo for the day when I've got a film camera or two knocking around :)

I could use an OM on bulb mode for some washed out colour photos!

I'll be using B&W most likely though.

Here are the final details for our day out in Airfield for World Toy Camera Day on 18th October.

Start time: 11am (of course you can go earlier if you wish, Airfield opens at 10am)

Photograph around the grounds till lunch time and then we can develop some films in the afternoon. I can’t yet say how many films you will get to develop as I don’t have a total of how many are coming yet, but you will get to develop one film at least.

    Finish time around 3pm.

You can shoot B&W, Colour, or both on the day but the colour film will have to be developed in a lab.

Re B&W films: It would make developing easier if we all used the same film. I suggest getting some Kodak TRI-X film. Don’t worry if you can’t find any or have already purchased another film, it won’t stop you taking part but it would be best to have a 400 ISO film.

If films are not dry before you leave, I will post them to you.

If you have extra toy cameras, please bring them and maybe others can have a try.

Please pm me if you intend coming along as I need to know how many we will have.
