I'm going to buy an album this Friday, and I'm wondering is their any album that I must get? I own the new albums from The Verve, Mogwai, Tv On The Radio and Kings Of Leon.

I have quite the collection back home so could you try to keep it to 2008, unless there's an amazing piece of work, that has been hidden under the radar for years...

Which album to get?? 21 votes

Bon Iver - For Emma Long Ago

Trent Reznor for me. As far as I know I downloaded the Slip for free though. The mp3s were beautiful quality and came with individual song art and info and lyrics.

The two albums he released for free this year were actually incredible though, toned down the angsty vocals and turned up the awesome.

I didn't know you could get the Slip for free... Is it legal?? I'll investigate that further....

And I'm not a huge fan of Cold War Kids, though tbh I never gave them much of a chance.... Liked a few songs on their last album.

Yeah. It was anyway. It was downloadable straight from the NIN website. I thought Ghosts was better though.

Bon Iver seems likes the peoples choice. I'll get that at the weekend so and maybe the slip by NIN too.

Bon Iver is the best album of the year....

but a very close second is Frightened Rabbit - 'The Midlnight Organ Fight'.

Just downloaded Memory And Humanity by Funeral For A Friend. Have given it a few listens and it's a good album. Shall buy it legally tomorrow! Do have a listen if you like a bit of crunchy and melodic Welsh emo.

You can actually download a legal Bon Iver EP (see my link) that is reinterpretation of 4 songs from For Emma, Forever Ago.

IMO, they are not a patch on the original versions, but in his defence, it's more like a jam than a polished product, and it really is interesting to see what he can do with a band supporting him. That said, it's free, so no complaints :pac:
