    According to this:

    http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/10/06/apple-loses-irish-outlet

I had noticed the Henry Street one had the top floor with all the Apple gear blocked off for ages and it recently got refurbished but I haven't been in since... Hopefully we will get a proper Apple store instead. Though I buy most of my gear online, it's nice to have brick-and-mortar stores around for "last minute" needs...

I was in the Dundrum Centre a couple of weeks ago and the Apple products weren't on display in the 3G Store, just boring olde phones.

no harm to be honest, maybe an Apple store might open now

Just wondering who actually buys apple or even any computer stuff in a store? I rarely do. I'm sure an apple store would improve staff knowledge and not have dirty macs in a corner but I'd probably only go to look once.

I don't buy most of my stuff in stores either, but it's nice to have the option to just drop in and get something you need urgently - I recently needed to get a bluetooth keyboard and did just that. It's not that I'll miss O2 Experience as a store that much, it just reduces the options around town - not sure if we'll get an Apple store at all...

We badly need a real Applestore over here. Hopefully it will happen soon.

I was wondering whether this was a precursor to apple opening a store up?

I bought my MacBook Pro in the O2 Experience store on Grafton Street.

I would say PC World's might be getting the contract. PC World in Airside recently became an authorised reseller.

I dunno what you're all bitching about, we just need Apple products in as many stores as possible, and healthy competition.

Like this Apple Wireless keyboard I'm using right now.
Got it in Argos for €5 less than the Apple Store price...

I thought this happened ages ago.. Was looking for a mini DVI to VGA adapter a few weeks back and every 02 store I rang said they don't do them anymore...

The 3 Store had them, actually , all their branches had them which was good... They'd loads of the little bits u can never find anywhere. N the staff new exactly what I was talking about..

I agree with this, and everyone here that we need an apple store. We also need the FULL itunes store. i.e, movies, tv series etc.

If i had to pick i'd probably go with the fully fledged itunes store.......no the apple store..... no itunes..... Look at all these decisions i have to make on a daily basis! :p

Lets not forget the 3G stoers still do apple products, so is not like there's no other options...as well as this PC World do them...even if they generally have old stock :)

I've bought a macbook from 3G, St. Stephen's green shopping centre.

Once you are sure you are getting the latest model, I'd prefer to buy off a shop then the internet. So you need to do a bit of research and checking but when you're making a big purchase you'll be doing this anyway.

There was a problem with the battery failing under warranty and they sorted there and then in the shop and called Apple on my behalf.
    Fair play! :)

Walk around any apple store, it's a completely different experience than any shopping that I've ever done, I'd buy first in an apple store if we had one here, love them, could spend hours in them.

Would love an actual apple store here, but the small space they have in PC World swords is quite nice. Has the "bar" idea too

Reading in an industry magazine yesterday about some venture apple are doing with HP with stores across Europe. Perhaps we are going to see new stores?

Finally decided to upgrade to Leopard and went into two 3G stores and PC World in Airside and none of them had it.:(

On a side note(and without totally taking this thread off topic) I`m going to buy an external hard drive once I have Leopard installed as I have no back up at all at the moment and have at least 40 GB of music and loads of photos.

I`ve never used an external drive to back up before, so is there anything in particular I should look for when purchasing? connection type? make etc?

    Any recommendations would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance.:)

Yes, there is a Belfast Apple store now open - the whole discussion on it was in this thread:

I prefer to buy online from Apple directly - the refurbished has a lot of good deals from time to time. You can also get them in the 3G stores, PC World Airside (though check if they are selling new stock) and a few Spectra stores in Dublin or the Apple store in Belfast obviously. Apple is announcing new laptops on Tuesday, so wait and see what happens:

Picked up a copy of Leopard in the 3G store in Blanchardstown today and also a Western Digital My Book Home Edition 500GB external hard drive.

I`m going to copy my hard drive to the Western Digital before trying the upgrade route with Leopard later on. I`ll report back later or tomorrow to let you know how it went.

All the Apple iPods and CPU's are in the 3G Dundrum Store. Infact they are rolling out Apple Products to all their stores now.

Heard from an Apple Rep that the Apple Movie store may be open for Christmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

Baked up my main files on to external HD last night with drag and drop and then did Leopard upgrade which worked no problem at all.

Reformatted the hard drive and am using it for Time Machine which is quite cool.

Sure, we had an apple store on kildare street in dublin city centre, but that shut down quite a while ago. The store sign is still there but it looks very sad :/ I don't expect they'll open another...

There is an unofficial Apple store in Limerick. They sell all the bits and pieces and were helpful enough when I brought in a broken ipod to them a few years ago.

I hope thats true. The movie rentals will also be very handy as im seriously getting p*ssed of with extravision. The last 3 movies we've rented have been scratched to bits and stop and jitter most of the way through. Plus the convenience of renting from the internet is a big plus too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Shane O' Malley

He did not say if renting will be available just to get ready for a movies on itunes.

But with a bot of luck they will follow the same systems as in the UK

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭johnk123

Yeah, i'm sure they will follow the same as the UK. I'll be happy anyway
