    Hoping someone can help!

Some years ago I bought the Lidl camping satellite receiver.
It was 'Porty' brand, but identical to this:
    http://www.comag-ag.de/html/com-download/receiver/com-dwl-dvbfta3.html

The dish is installed on the roof but the Porty box has now died.

I'm wondering if I can somehow connect the cable from the satellite dish to my new Sony Bravia TV (KDL20S3020)
which has the DVB and Freeview logos on it?

ie. is it just a matter of converting the satelite cable's screw-in connection to a standard RF shape or would I need a new box? Is the LNB powered by the box?

If I need a new one can anyone recommend a (cheap) model. I'm heading up north today, so it'd be great if I could pick one up.

I think that the LNB is powered through the box. Sure just thinking about it, it must be. As regards plugging the sat into the tv I would be careful. Lidl are about to start a deal on sat recievers next week http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20081013.index . Some of the panasonic tv's have a built-in freesat tuner that you plug the sat cable in.

i'm confused. as far as i can see your tv has a freeview tuner for terrestrial digital.

it can't decode a satellite signal so plugging it into a sat isn't going to get you anywhere.

Here is the link to the Panasonic Freesat tv's http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/711712/index.html

Your TV does not have a satellite tuner built into it. It has a Digital Terrestrial Tuner (DTT). Plugging in the satellite dish will do nothing for you.

Also, and sorry to be the bearer of more bad news, the digital tuner built into your TV is only mpeg 2 compatible. The Irish DTT service will be mpeg 4, so your tuner will not work with that either, you will need to get an external set top box.

You can of course plug an aerial in to the tv and receive the 4 standard analogue channels.

As has been mentioned in this thread, Lidl are selling a satellite receiver for 49.99 on Monday 10th October. You may want to check it out.

    Regards,
    MJ

Thanks all! I'm not too well up on the technicalities, but that pretty much clears it up.

Ah, I understand the difference now.
I'll check out the Lidl reciever in that case.
