Training motivation on the wane...

After reaching the summit of Kilmanjaro 3 weeks ago, my ambition to go out running, swimming and cycling is vastly reduced. Vegging at the TV and other low octane adventures seem so appealing. Do others get these lulls. Is it normal to have motivation coming and going?

    Cheers.:)

    Congrats on the climb.

Yes, it is of course usual to get these lulls - especially when weather turns poor, or after achieving a particular goal. Someone here posted this link, which gives some good ideas to get motivation going again.

well done on the climb its something i have on my "to do list".

As regards motivation, pick a goal that interests you and i mean really really interests you and plan for it. Very hard to do something when your not really pushed about it.
Join a club if you can, it will help no end when your having a bad week and also as soon as you get going again the endorphins will make sure you keep at.
    good luck

What motivated you to do Kilimanjaro? Was it adventure, beauty, accomplishment, people, physicality, a promise etc...?

Have a think about how you felt when you reached the summit. What exactly was it that made that moment special? Was it the hard work, the air, the company...

If you can answer these types of questions, you are half way there to knowing what you need to do next to get you going...

There are lots more 'hills' to climb!

    Cheers guys.

I did Kili because of the oppourtunity for big adventure, which appeals strongly. That plus a kind of mid life crisis syndrome setting in despite being 28.

If it wasnt for Kili id never have done the duathlons / triathlons for fitness etc. Cant believe im hooked on them! I just need to get hooked on the training again. Ive registered to do the Jingle bells 5k run in Decemeber. There's a reasons to keep at it. So many other events seem to fall on days when im in work. Argh!

The Aware 10k will be in early December. Last year's was my first ever ahem race and it gave me the focus to get out and run during November. I've also invested in some decent wind proof and water proof gear and run home from work so it really removes the temptation to veg on the sofa rather than getting out there. Really, you just have to push yourself to get outside, once you're out and have started running you're grand.

With all of that high altitude training, your pace should have picked up! You should be running like Gebrselassie!

Yeah, I was hoping to come back like Linford Christie. Instead, I still run like a boat and have legs like twigs. :(
