It's one of those games that looked amazing when it came out but was actually a bit on the crap side. Play it nowadays and prepare for the disappointment.

I rented it a couple of times on the Mega Drive. As the guys say it looks and sounds wonderful. The gameplay was a very fiddly and frustrating though.

This is so weird... ...Earlier today I thought about creating a thread here to see if anyone remembered the game 'Gods' too! I was a big fan of it but I admit that the gameplay was never the best. I don't think I ever completed it. Did you?

I had the PC version... ...I still have it, in fact.

I thought Gods looked so photorealistic at the time :)

Well it was 1991! I remember the game very well. It was one of the first games I got to play on a brand spanking new 386SX that my parents bought the same year. The gameplay for me was fiddly in places and quite difficult but I do remember it being a lot of fun. I played it a couple of years ago through DOSBox. I must dig it out again for another nostalgia trip :).

Never played it at the time but it looks very pedestrian in its pacing, I think a lot of games from that era were.

The hero's movement speed is probably a bit slower than expected but the game itself is far from slow-paced at times (I'm assuming that's what you mean by pedestrian pacing). Rather than blindly jumping in and hammering the space bar you are supposed to think tactically.

I don't want to go too far off topic but have you heard of or played Hurrican? It's very similar to Turrican.

Yeah, I had this for the Atari ST. One of my lesser favourite Bitmap Bros games. Their best effort was Xenon 1 FTW.

As I recall, Amiga Power made many (many) smart-alec comments about how slow this game was/is...I never played it myself but I remember thinking how good it looked and then reading the reviews :(

I missed that part of your post originally. A quick search on YouTube produced this for the PC:

    and this for the MSX:

I've never played the Amiga version either so maybe it was slower but I dug out the PC version recently (thank you DOSBox :)) and while it was slower than more modern platform games, the action can still get very hectic at times. Certain part do require almost pixel-perfect placement of the player character for jumping over or shooting certain obstacles.
