Has anybody hear anything about John Banville getting involved with the animal rights protestors outside the college? Apparently there's something on the news tonight about it. Just was wondering if anybody had heard anything on the grape vine?

An unfortunate piece of "negative publicity" for the college - but frankly I would value 1,000 rat lives less that one human life.

yep, i'm with you there. Managed to catch the interview with Banville, what a twat! He had no idea what he was talking about...... Kind of a poor show from RTE to even consider reporting it though

Hmmm, why John Banville??? A bit random to have him on the news speaking out about something he doesn't know about. But great to see that trinity have an ethics committee, hopefully people will have picked up on the fact that they do actually think about what they're doing.
Oh, just realised, John Banville talking about TCD animal work is like me commenting on one of his books.... Cos I havent read them :)

    Most disappointing thread ever.

    Animal House, House, House
    Nobody ever went to class
Then we saw Donald Sutherland's ass
    Animal House, House, House
    Animal House, House, House
Then they did the end like American Graffiti
Where you found out what happened to everyone

Won't be long now before a bunch of 40-something rent-a-hippies with English accents start protesting outside College.

Think Huntington Life Sciences. Think Oxford University security.

Thank god for black spikey railings. They're not just for fenians!

There was something about it in the Sunday Tribune (I think) over the weekend. He came off like an idiot. Just kept repeating "There's no need for it", which makes me wonder if he thinks that animal testing actually isn't doing anything and all of the scientists in TCD who keep doing it are only in it for ****s and giggles.

Its John Banville doing exactly what he does best - being entirely irrelevant and bathering. Its the same whether its in an interview or in prose, and proves that the booker prize is often given to pure ****e :p
