The season so far

Who'd of thought at this stage the Colts, Pats and Chargers would all be second in their divisions?

It looks like the Titans have AFc South wrapped up being 5-0, with the colts lagging behind at 2-2. Huge win at the weeked for them though, still in with a shout of the play-offs.

The Chargers are in alot of trouble at 2-3 while the Broncos are romping clear of AFC West with a 4-1 record. I cant see the chargers coming back into it and I doubt they will make the play-offs either. Bye Bye Norv.:pac:

The pats are in the best shape of the big strugglers despite losing their best player. 3-1 and just 1 game behind the Bills who had a poor result on paper vs the Cardinals.

For the AFC I think the Broncos, Steelers and titans are locks to win their division. The Pats will take there as the bills struggle. This leaves the 2 wildcard spots wide hope. Colts 2-2, Jags 2-3, Ravens 2-2, Chargers 2-3, dolphins 2-2, Jets 2-2 and with the bills at 4-1 they must be favourites to take one of the slots.

From a Raiders point of view it kills me to think if we could just hold onto a lead going into the 4th quarter we'd be 3-1 now and looking good.:o

The NFC is even more wide open I think with no team looking like definite division winners.

The east is obviously the one to watch with the Giants 4-0, Skins 4-1, Cowboys 4-1 and the eagles look like their going to miss out at 2-3. It's impossible to call who will win but it looks likely that 2 of the wild cards will still come from this division which makes wthe battle for top spot in the other division crucial.

In the north the bears are suprisingly in the lead at 3-2 while last years winners the Packers are struggling without Mr. Incepterous weighing in at 2-3. Alot of people "suprise" team to go far were the viking, who so far have suck dick. 1-3 is a big disappointment for them and I think this will be another team with a new HC this off-season. The Detriot Lions are the Detroit Lions, useless.

THe NFC south has been a wide open division for the last few years with anyone of these teams in with a shout. Currently the Panthers are suprisinly alot of people by being the top dog at 4-1. The buccs and the saints arent far behind at 3-2 and this division could still go either way. The divisional matches will be huge here, I think the Saints might nick it. The Falcons have been much better then last year and look like they will finish with a respectable record.

NFC west, undoubtable the worst division in the league. It pains to think one of the following from the cardinals(3-2), 49ers(2-3), Seahawks(1-3) and Rams(0-4) could make it to the play-offs is a crying shame, but thats the nature of the game.

So who does everyone else predict will make it?
AFC: Pats, titans, Broncos, Steelers, Bills & Colts
NFC: Giants, Bears, Saints, Cardinals, Redskins, Cowboys.

I made a similar post in the week 5 thread.

The AFC east is wide open imo. I'm still not ready to call the Pats winners as we have a tough enough schedule now with the Chargers, Broncos and Colts in our next four games. Compare that to Miami who seem to have come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks, they have the Texans, Ravens, Bills and Broncos over the same period. The Jets are not out of it either, they have the Bengals, Raiders, Chiefs and Bills in the next four. We play the Bills in five weeks time.
As you can see though, that schedule favours the Jets over that period and we will have a much clearer picture as to how Miami are at that stage. Also while Cassel looked a lot better on Sunday, we have some tough matchups for him over that period. I think its far too early to call the AFC east.
As regards the other divisions, its becoming clear that the Texans are a serious ouftit. They look like taking the AFC south with the schedule they have and the way they are playing, two Colts games and a Steelers game are all they look like having trouble with, well they have the Jags as well. But the Colts are not playing well enough and they have a tough schedule so I don't see them getting back into the divisional race.
I think the Wild Cards in the AFC are up for grabs, with one possibly going to the AFC east and the other one being a dogfight between the Colts, Jags, Ravens and Chargers(if they get their act together). Even the third team in the AFC east could be in that picture.
I'll go for this in the AFC at the moment
Broncos, Titans, Steelers, Patriots, Dolphins and meh I just don't know after that its a toss up. Colts if they get it together I suppose.

The NFC is totally different. It looks a lot clearer already with the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys all looking like making it unless the Eagles win all their divisional games from here on which looks impossible. The Panthers are looking really good and tonights game is crucial for the Saints. I think the 49ers will take the west/worst division in football. The NFC north is not over by any means, the vikings could still have a say, the Packers can do it but I'll plump for Chicago and that defense which is superb, although I'm not sold on Orton.
Redskins, Panthers, Bears, 49ers, Giants and Cowboys.

Thats just the way the nfl goes, no matter what teams you expect to be good or bad over half of the teams will fail to live upto that standard.

Every season only half the teams that made the playoffs will make it the next year. Thank god for the capped salary and the draft, thats why the NFL is the most exciting sports league in the world, compare it to the "exciting" Premiership where you can easily pick the top 4 year after year.

In Peter King's Monday Morning QB atricle of last week he talks about how "Six of the eight divisions this morning are led by different teams than the ones that won divisions last year." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/09/29/Week4/index.html

    AFC:

    East: Patriots
    West: Broncos
    North: Steelers
South: Titans (Still not conviced about the Titans, but a 5-0 start and the Colts 2-2, they'll be hard to stop but then again ask the 05 Vikings)
    Wildcards: Bills & Colts

    NFC:

    East: Cowboys
    West: Cardinals
    North: Packers
    South: Carolina
    Wildcards: Redskins & Giants

Then again like my previous post states i probably be completely wrong.

Ye the season has been very strange thus far. Even the Pats-Chargers game which pre-season looked like a huge game has been diminished somewhat.

i would say that as a raiders fan, the season has gone as expected. A change of coach (again), a 1-3 record and apart from a good running game, little else to be excited about!!

I'm intrigued by the resurgence of the NFC East, their matches are compelling.
