VMware Workstation causing Vista x64 to BSOD

Ok, I want to install Workstation on my PC. My host OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I tried installing Workstation 6.3, but upon restart it caused Vista to constantly BSOD. I booted in safe mode and did a system restore.

I then downloaded Workstation 6.5, and got the exact same problem.

    Two questions;

    1. What is causing this?
    2. How can I install Workstation on Vista 64-bit without ruining my system??

I have to say, I've had a lot of problems with VMware software, and really starting to have had my fill with them. But that's beside the point.

Thanks in advance for any help. It will be much appreciated. :D

it was a netio.sys error the first time anyway...think that's something to do with some networking driver. not sure though.

ok...good news and bad news. good news is that hotfix seemed to solved the BSOD problem. Restart completed without crash.
However, every time I click finish when created a VM, Workstation hangs (gives the Not Responding status)

    any ideas??

I can't exactly remember, but I had errors when trying to run Vmware on 64bit.

Yes Virtualbox is opensource, I find it very easy to use and quite functional but I've used it before on linux.

VMWare workstation you have to pay to use (IIRC) so if you have a valid license then you should talk to the VMWare people.

VMWare server is free and works fine.

For creating VMs I use easyvmx. (which appears to have vanished at this time)

Microsoft's Virtual PC and Virtual Server are both also free and very easy to use.

MS Virtual PC/Server are kinda rubbish. I'm using Virtual Server in a production environment on a Dell PE 2900, but it's thrown up a few headaches. Every few weeks it'll fallover, and need a restart.

VMWare has been easier to work with. As for my X64 rig spec:
    CPU: C2D E6600
    Mobo: Gigabyte 965 DS3
    Video: Ati Radeon HD 4850
    RAM: 2x2GB + 2x1GB Corsair PC6400
    HDD: 74GB Raptor + 250GB WD + 320GB Maxtor + 300GB Maxtor
    OS: Vista Ultimate X64 SP1

The one thing which does cause VMWare to have a panic attack is my 3Com USB Wireless adapter.
