    Hi All

Bought a new iPod Touch over the weekend and just have a few questions!

    1. When I connected it to iTunes it highlighted that there was a later software version available but when I went to download it, it said it would cost 8 Euro (or something like that?). I owned a regular iPod a coulpe of years ago and never had to pay for updates. Will I have to pay for every single software update from now on? :(

    2. When I try to connect via the YouTube icon it tells me that I need to go to iTunes and enable YouTube. How do I do this? Will the latest software solve this problem?

    3. I only got a USB cable to charge it via the PC. What do people use to charge their iPod Touch when they go on 2 weeks hols, etc?? With my older iPod I also had a socket charger. Could I use this with the iPod Touch?

    Thanks!

    1. The 2.0 software update costs €8 but you won't have to pay for all the newer updates (hopefully!!!) after this one. Where did you buy your Touch cause I was under the impression that the new models came with 2.0 preloaded, if it's not already on yours that would mean you've bought the older model.

    2. I've never seen the YouTube problem, sorry!

    3. iPod's haven't come with wall charger in a few years unfortunately, but your old one will work fine with it

    Cheers!

I got it in Argos (spur of the moment) and was unaware that a 2nd generation had just been released! :(

Apart from volume buttons on the side (and 2.0 S/W), it doesnt look like I'm missing much....

Yeah not much difference other than the looks, plus you can jailbreak the 1st gen models but not the 2nd gen ones which is handy!

Jailbreaking prevents future software updates, right?....could be dodgy after spending so much money!!

Then again, if I ever want to do it, maybe I should avoid the latest software? although i'm not sure of the benefits of jailbreaking yet!....could i download firefox and msn messenger onto the iPod for example?

Jailbreaking for the most part can't do anything that can't be undone. You can't get Firefox or MSN but you can get some good IM clients. The best things I have from jailbreaking are custom themes, a good few games, a stacks application like on OS X and a good few other things, personally it's worth it and it's not that hard anymore. have a look around http://www.ipodtouchfans.com and see what you can get.

There are ways to get around paying €8 for the 2.0 update as well btw. Just do a google search and you should get some more info.
