I live in Dublin and have to buy bin tags to stick on my rubbish to get it collected.

Someone told me its possible to claim tax relief for this, is that true? How do you go about it?

I dont think Ive any receipts for tags purchased this year, is that a problem? Can I claim for the tax year to date or only going forward?

Ok, this is off the top of my head.

There is a receipt attached to the bin tag, you tear it off and keep that bit for your own records.

BUT, I thought a few years back we were all automatically given relief at a flat rate for that and couldn't claim it over a certain amount. I think that maye even it is automatically given. Thats the bit thats off the top of my head :)

I googled it and came up with this:

Is this not means tested as well for people either not earning or earning a small enough amount that they don't pay prsi?

Anyone who pays refuse charges can claim up to €400 per year. You can ring them up, use revenue.ie or reach services. I think you can even do it through text messages. You don't need to send in your receipts although they may ask you to, so make sure you keep them all.
