i,m looking at changing my rifle and saw the Sig Sauer SG 550 , and the barrett m98b .338 lapua
is it possible to get rifles like these??
i have a .223 at the moment and would it be only a matter of changing the numbers on the FAC to change to a Sig Sauer SG 550

Assuming your current .223 is a bolt action of some sort, you'd also be looking to get the 'Rifle (Bolt Action)' part of your certificate changed to 'Rifle (Semi Automatic)'.
It should really be a full new application, but you may get lucky...

Nowhere in the current law does it state that it has to be a full new application. But with our wonderful little country you just never know:D:D:D

You're definitely wandering into restricted firearms territory there xesse. Semi-auto centre fire rifles are restricted and then there's the whole 'assault rifle' thing which I'd say the SG550 falls into as well.

Just in case you didn't know :pac:

It's still going to happen though, a lot of dealers have signed up to be restricted dealers AFAIK.

A semi will never be as accurate as a bolt action, you've also got to factor in barrel changing with the centre fires as the barrels don't last that long (1000 rounds'ish).

There was a benchrest rifle for sale a couple of months back on the for sale board. Big money though.

    On the SIG 551 SPORTER.
I was intrested in the one advertised.[now sold]
The SIG IS proably one of the most accruate semis out there.Without paying totally stupid money, like 30K for a Walther 2000 308 or 15k for a HK PSG1.
The 550/ will sell in the EU for appx 2K euros.Thats rifle,case,2[?]X10 rnd mags cleaning kit and SIG bi pod on the 550 model. You have good peep sights[better IMO than most semi rifle yokes].You would/should put a good scope on this rifle and it will reach out to 350 meters no problem,or so I was assured by the seller, who had a Trijocon sight on it.
One thing for sure. You wont have to change out a barrel on a SIG,it is rated up to 200k shots!
Plus milspec rifles are not that difficult to switch out.Bolt actions are a mega job to do 100% right.Accruacy is relative,do you want a sub MOa tackdriver out at 300 meters for target shooting?Or a good foxer and target rifle? If we get more people trying to get the semis here as well,it will show that there is a demand for them, and hopefully more dealers will stock them.
Personally,if I have the quids and Santie thinks I'm a good boy,a SIG is on my Xmas list, restricted or no.:)
