    Hi all,

I've been taking photos for quite some time, but have never done any photography courses. So I was thinking about doing one, and was just wondering if anyone has completed the "Creative Approaches to Better Photography" course in the Temple Bar Gallery of Photography?

Or perhaps some other course in the Dublin area which would give a good base to someone who is familiar with the basics of photography, and perhaps provide a platform to move on from?

    Any advise would be much-appreciated.

    Cheers

    Luke

Are you in a Camera Club?

I found that joining a camera Club was really good. You get to mix with other Photographers & learn from them. You can enter work into competitions & have it criticised, which can be a great benefit too. There are also interesting talks where you can get tips. The annual membership is a less than a course & lasts all year. You do get out what you put in though.

I am in Dublin Camera Club, but there are quite a few around to choose from.

    Hi - appreciate the reply.

Yes I thought of joining the Dublin Camera Club actually. Have you done any of the courses they run?

I have done the Black & White Darkroom course, which was really good. I still have to develop & print some of film. Just a lack of time. I also dod the Studio course, which is a one night only & goes through the safety & operation of the gear. That one is mandatory before you can book the Studio. There was a Digital Photography course a while ago but it has not been scheduled for a while.

As I said before, I have learned more from informal talks with other members & seeing how others work away on trips. We also have a full program of talks & events on Tuesday night meetings. You are more than welcome to come along one night & see if you like it.

I took a studio lighting workshop in Temple bar and found it to be very informative and helpful.

I think that any opportunity to take photos in a structured environment will be helpful. I think it's worth it. ... now I just wish I had a studio to take photos in, and more gear.

I did the Creative Approaches course in the Gallery of Photography. It was a good course but it very much revolved around photoshop rather than how to take a photo. I did learn a good bit though.

Thanks everyone. Not sure what I'll do yet, but your input certainly helps.

    Cheers!
