Think you have to opt into this one. If your an Eircom Customer already, with a 1mb broadband = (25E line + 25E BB).As of today you can now get free calls to meteor from your landline; for that same 50 quid.Sorry if that sounds like an advert, I hate eircom more than most, just thought that I'd share

Looking at T&C the free meteor calls seem to be capped at 500mins per month.

Looking at the website, seems anyone on a 1mb line business or home. E24.99 - should upgrade to 3mb line, which will also be E24.99 for the next 3 months...Just make sure to downgrade before Jan 1st, would take 1 call.

Just rang up Eircom, and you have to move to one of the new friends or family bundle to avail of the free Meteor calls, it can't be applied to those on existing bundles (e.g. Anytime)

Just spent half my lunch trying to get through to them too, and the website seems purposely misleading, bus anyways:with Eircom A bundle = Line Rental + BB + Call Package."Anytime" is a call package and is 41 Euro a month. If you have (1mb) broadband + "anytime" = 66 Euro p/mvs 50 Euro for everything just mentioned + 500 mins to meteor. What they wont tell you, especially if your already on a bundle is that you can swap bundles and pay less and get more.None of this actually means I reccomend Eircom, I put up with Irish Dial-Up just to have no dealings with them. This is just what I'd reccomend to my mam.

True, and after doing some digging on my calls, heres some numbers:

My Current package: Talktime Afterhours + 3Meg BB = €55.99/month
Last 2-monthly bill was €125.05, which included about a fivers worth of calls to Meteor numbers.

So in that case (I don't care about international calls) it makes sense for me to switch to Talktime Friends + 7Meg = €59.99/month, so I'd only be paying a fiver extra and double my speed (assuming I can get it, of course)

Alternatively, the equivalent of what you have now is - talktime friends + 3mb is 49.99 per month = 20 euro saving every bill for exactly the same thing; plus you get your 500 mins to meteor each month. Seems like you'd also get a 5euro credit each month for the next 3 because of a promotion.

i would sell my soul to satan in order to never have to use dial up again and seeing as eircom is slightly less bad than satan :o

thanks to the OP, may do some investa-migation

I wonder are Eircom offering Meteor cheaper interconnect charges than other operators?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,238 ✭✭✭leex

Eircom own Meteor - anything is possible.

see amendment 31 + 32. seems there is a flat rate for calls to mobiles (same for all networks regardless of time or day), which are more expensive for any mobile weekend and evening calls. As well as higher rates some Intl calls - seems like they intended on making their meteor revenue back through the backdoor.

I'd recheck your letter, as it says on mine that Free Calls will be Capped at 250mins, meteor calls will be scrapped and the price is going up by €2 - Due to high customer calling patterns. - (Certainly not mine)

Its seems a ploy to get you to change to Talktime Chatter as if you change to it for 0.13 c LESS you get Free unlimited calls after 6, and 30 any network mobile calls.

Time to start shopping around again me thinks

Yeah, they turned to their old trick again. They also redefined the peak times, now it's from 07:00 to 19:00 including all holidays. God knows I wanted to stay with them but they want me to leave...

Comreg, the organisiation empowered with regulating the telecoms industry have forced eircoms hand on this, Apparently eircom were making a loss on these packages and that is anti competitive. So comreg who are in charge of making sure we dont get ripped off have just increased my phone bill by about €75 a month. Funny country this.

Nothing is free there is always a hidden cost like having to top up by €20 once a month. You have to top up with €20 in one go you can't get four €5 of credit.

My letter was different again. It said that "free" local & national calls were being capped at 500 mins per month, and "free" meteor calls were being capped at 30 mins per month.

You must be on a higher tariff than me. I'll be on €51.99 a month if I stay with them after Xmas

After 7 now isn't it? Talktime Chatter is 13 cent cheaper than the package it replaces?

    30 mins per month.

    Edit:-
I see Vodafone are giving 200 mins per month to vodafone mobiles on their €40 landline package. which is equivalent to my new €52/month Eircom package.

Anyone experience of their BB services?

I have just switched its costing me 3 euro a month less for the same package and 7mb broadband instead of 3mb.

Sorry from eircom 3mb off peak calls in the evenings for free.

    To

7Mb off peaks calls in the evening with vodafone.

I don't use the phone all that much but for a faster Internet speed with double the download allowance it was an easy decision.

Signed up with Vodafone aswell today.

You get 3mb BB, line rental, local & national evening calls for free (after 6) and 200 mins to 087 each month for €40 p/m (If you have a Vodafone pay monthly customer, you get it for €35 p/m)

Eircom would want to revisit their charges:rolleyes:
