    Hi,
I have found myself free of family commitments this christmas and New Year, parents are going away. I am thinking off maybe Skiing for a week around new year but would prob be on my own as friends, won't or can't go. Anyone know of any companies that do ski trips for groups of independent travellers??

    Thanks.

The Today FM ski trip might be an idea? Never done one myself, but I'm sure they would be entertaining enough if you're on your own?

Check out the French youth hostels (www.fuaj.org). They do a sort of ski package, with full board, ski pass, insurance, and often ski hire or lessons as well. And no single supplement. The hostels are often great craic with a good mixture of nationalities, and ski abilities. The food is usually excellent, and there's lots of it. Accommodation is usually single beds, sometimes bunks, in modern rooms of 4-6, but you are there to ski, no loll around in bed. They are often in great situations and don't cost a bomb.

There are hostels in Tignes, Les Arcs, Val Cenis, Chamonix, Serre Chavelier, Les Deux Alpes, Chamrousse. and others.

If I were skiing on my own, that's the first place I'd check out.

For most places in France, the cheapest way to get there is to fly to Paris, then get a TGV or overnight train to the Alps.
