Yup... I'd advise you if your planning on not waiting 1 year for a spot (maybe longer) then get your hole on the phone tommorow and get a application from the manpower office.

I sent my application (Eastern) off about two weeks ago and haven't heard anything since- anyone any clue bout how long it should take for an interview (or do they confirm that they've received your forms?) etc.?

I've heard the same thing about there maybe being a drive in November, but I suppose we'll have to wait till after the budget to see if Defence is getting cut and if it will affect enlistment.

A friend of mine was waiting for 3 months for a reply... it differs however, don't expect a reply within less than a month.

You can however call manpower and ask them if they recieved it, I know a few have done it.

does anybody have a number for manpower in eastern?

    Thanks.

sorry but ur gona have to forget about the Irish army for at least 2 years although they are not ruling out a call up in Jan 2009 it doesn't look good. My son was supposed to be called up this week and after several phone calls last week we were finally told that he wont be getting in this year even though he did his interview, medical and fitness in June 2008 and was told he was in.

The British Army wants Irish recruits ....

No waiting ... I know people who can have you hopping over IEDS by this time next year not starting training*

    * Warning recruitment into the british army may get you killed

British army might want Irish recruits but i dont want my son joining them would rather he waited although he has other ideas. Have to say im not happy with the way Irish army have dealt with this cutback they havent told applicants their not getting in we know because we rang them

I've heard a lot of conflicting stories on recruitment. Some people have told me recruitment hasn't stopped and cant. While others have said it has for 2 years.

Hard to know when left in the dark,Why cant an offical statement be made:rolleyes:

Can I swear in here?? recession, depression, all the ****in same, but the extent of it hasn't yet settled. The last time the rumblings of closing Barracks happened it took months to filter down, this info is on the net now! the Budget happened 8.5 hrs ago. this one is gonna hurt.

Does any1 know when they are actually going to start recruiting as i would much prefer serve under my own country other than britain ye know.
If its a year and i can actually start then, well then i dont mind, can work on me CV and general fitness etc etc until then.

But if its any longer i'll just start getting bored and too the point of thinking of joining a different army.

That's the thing, the Runour is 2010 but, the thing I read, (cant remember where), said an indefinite length of time.

I would think Late 2010 at latest due to demand and Retirements and such, but then the competition is going to be extremely stiff!!!!

Its a bit of a joke really, its the one section of our budget that shouldnt be ever decreases, its under budgeted anyway.

Just saw the Budget report for Defence there, There is such a small decrease that recruitment could still go ahead unless the money is being used somewhere else!

If you think about you cant really freeze recruitment only decrease it. But your comment goes along with what high ranking members in the PDF have told me

    Exactly ChapOfDRyans,

Im in the same boat as you at the mo, except i had to re-apply because i fell in the fitness test, they cant freeze it but they can SLOW in down almost to a stop... People are retiring and those places have to be filled, thats the way I look at it anyway...

Best thing to do is to keep training in the mean time
