I am looking to buy an amp in the next few days. I want something a bit more than a 10-12W practice amp, something that could possibly be used for jaming etc in the futhure. I have about €250 to spend, anyone any sugestions on what to get or where to go in Dublin?

Really depends on what kind of music you're playing, I wouldn't recommend anything until I find out what kinda sound you're after.

Want to get punky/rock/indie type sound.

Hmm, perhaps getting a Epiphone Valve Junior and a couple of stomps like a distortion and an EQ would be the best bet. The Valve Junior is surprisingly loud, so would do you well for jamming.

Something from Roland or Line6 perhaps? Things in your price range-ish

    line6 spider III
Roland Cube 30 (new) or 60 (2nd hand)
Blackheart Little Giant (5 watt tube amp)
    Peavy Valveking (2nd hand)

I prefer the Roland over the Line6, though never played the others. From personal experience, I have the Roland Cube 60 which isn't too shabby at all. It certainly has enough volume to play along with a drummer and there's a usable range of amp models and effects.

My girlfriend has a line6 spider but I've never really gotten along with it but it's one of the older models so things have probably improved since then.

As usual, go to a local music shop, try everything available (at volume if that's how you intend to use it) and see how you go. Check adverts.ie and review whatever you bought on here. Good luck.

Actually yeah, the Cube 60 probably would be a better choice.

Anyone any comments on the Epiphone Firefly 30DSP. Seems to be available for a good price.

i used one for a gig once it was pretty sweet. i was able to get a real ballsy rock sound out of it no bother...the roland amps are great for most genres so its a win win with them really. just take a trip into town and check out a few amps in the shops and see what ones you like and then see can you get a hold of it 2nd hand if you wanted.
