    Hi guys,

I’m interested in getting some hands on experience with basic analogue and digital electronics. I have some experience with electronics but mainly it is theoretical. I want to find somewhere preferably in the Dublin area or online (that wont take ages to deliver) where I can buy some kits. I was thinking along the line of breadboards and basic electronics components with maybe a manual detailing projects etc.. Does anyone have any good recommendations for shops around Dublin? I checked the Maplin website and didn’t find anything but maybe they have these kinds of things in store or in the catalogue?

Maplin have a ton of stuff, from breadboards to individual components and various kits. The catalogue lists them all in excruciating detail, or you could just stick your head in the door. They were in the back right corner last time I was there.

Yeah, +1 on themaplin kits, I mean there is a limit to the number of LED christmas trees and dice you can need, but then some of there kits are interesting, they had a mini guitar amp one a while back (may still be there) and they should be alot easier then trying to start your own from plans...

Let us know how you get on...

Thanks guys, looks like Maplin is the way to go.
I'll try to pop into the one in Blanch or the City in the near future and let you guys know how I got on.

Electronics has shrunk a lot in recent years. I am making the transition to Mechatronics as a start away from it. Unless you are into degree-level design or telecomms it is going to be difficult to secure employment in electronics alone with hooking it up with some level of electrical and mechanical skills as well.

Look out for Babani hobby books in Maplin for a basic grounding in analogue electronics, audio etc.
