Hi im thinking about taking my boyfriend away for a couple of days after christmas. I would really like to go somewhere relatively inexpensive, pretty (maybe snowing), and with plent to see and do and also some shopping!!. I have an image of somewhere like Switzerland in my head because it seems so pretty but is there much to do? So..any suggestions?

Switzerland is likely to be quite expensive as from Jan - Mar almost everywhere can be used as a base foir a ski holiday. Flights would also be expensive especially if flying on a saturday.

Vienna, Munich or maybe Budapest might be options. For Munich and Vienna try flying on a day other than saturday.
Snow won't be guaranteed but in Jan or Feb there's a fair chance you'll see some. Otherwise for more guaranteed snow I think you are talking in or near a ski resort which won't be too cheap.

Prague is prefect.. Was there 3 years ago for NYE. Snow everywhere. Bitterly cold so perfect excuse for having lots of hot whiskeys up at Prague Castle. Hotels not too bad pricewise. Lovely spot for walking and sightseeing.

    Madrid.

Pretty cheap for accomodation, beer, food, etc.

Could hit 20 degrees there in Jan-not totally unknown.
