    hi
I have agreed a proce for teh sale of my car, and the buyer is coming up to collect it from down the country this week.
I have asked her to pay me by bank draft and bring her drivers license as proof of identity.
Is this a safe enough way to recieve payment?
    Thanks
    Jack

Should be fine - ask for the bank draft number, and the issuing bank, and you can phone through to confirm its genuine.

Or if she is coming up during the week, bring her to her bank and watch her do a transfer of the amount to your account. Safest way, but phoning the issuing back of the draft is best for drafts.

++1 - the best way, by far.

My 0.02 only, but DON'T take a draft without pre-clearing it as above.....personally, I wouldn't take one at all - but that's because we:mad::o got stung, twice (work...), for Eur7500......

Ask her for a copy of a utility bill too, to confirm her current address

How much money are you talking about I would usually buy for cash if under 10K but if someone started asking me for a utility bill I would be inclined to tell them to f$%k off and with the current problem people are having selling cars I would take anything bar cheque. If they are paying by draft then get the number and issuing bank and check it out prior to them collecting as more than likely they will call in the evening.

Get half cash and the other half in a draft.also ask for the draft number so you can clear it ahead of time.

Well, if you're paying cash then your address doesn't need to be confirmed really. If you pay with a bank draft, then you are asking the buyer to trust you unless it can be verified immediately, so you can't get too stroppy about being asked for proof of identity.

Remember that many scams are successful because the scammer seems very genuine (forgetting the ridiculour 419 emails).

Do dealerships take payment via Internet banking? Be a lot easier than going to get a draft.

Bloody hell, another ancient thread resurrected. I was just about to reply to a post made 8 years ago.
