iPhone and eircom wireless

    Hey all,

I bought an iPhone over the weekend but I am having trouble connecting it to the wireless at home. I have an eircom wireless router, which I have connected the Iphone to. The phone is showing the signal strenght as good, but when I try to do anything online it says that there is no internet connection.

I called eircom but they said that it has nothing to do with them and to contact apple, who are closed right now. I was thinking it was more a problem with the router here which needs to be set to accept the phone. But then I don't really know what I am talking about!

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

    Bnev

I think you might have that backwards..
Your iPhone is connecting to the wireless router if it is showing signal strength.
Did the phone ask you to enter a network key etc?

yeah I've entered the network key. The phone is connecting automatically when I turn it on, is showing a good signal strenght, but I can't use any of the online stuff.

    thats odd,
what happens when you enter 192.168.1.254 in the browser address bar?
Is there any way of seeing what IP address is being allocated to the phone?

You may have mistyped the network key, copy and paste oops that's right an iPhone can't do that can they...

Its more than likely the network key, check the DHCP leases on the router to see if the iPhone has received one from the router.

Firstly you don't have to set the router to accept the phone. the phone should find your wireless network and ask you for the password for your wireless network.

Are you sure that it is the signal strength of your network that the phone is showing as good?

I don't know if this applies to the iphone or not but I find that it is necessary to have the wifi already turned on when you power up the 2g itouch or it will not get an ip address. (In other words if I have the itouch on and then turn on the wi fi it will not obtain an ip address) This was not the case with the 1g of itouch.

So make sure to have your wifi on when you power up the iphone just in case they share this problem.

I'm having the same problem as the op. Everything appears to be set up right on the iphone but it still cant access the network!?

The WEP key has been input and accepted and ip has been issued, does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried turning of the security on the router - temporarily of course!
