I emailed an Irish based Panasonic shop as i was wondering what was the best t.v to buy. I asked about a t.v with a intergrated satellite reciever.

I also raised the issue of MPEG4 compatibility. Below is there reply. I hope this information is of use to some of you.

"Panasonic have only one set in the market with an integrated
satellite receiver, namely the PZ81 series. These range from 42inch,
46inch and 50inch. Currently these sets are receiving free channels
through the Astro satellite and RTE 1 and 2 are being picked up
through the UHF aerial. However, nothing has been finalised in
Ireland weather or not RTE will broadcast in MPEG4. There are talks
of RTE even using MPEG5! Either way receiving satellite channels
will not be a problem with this set in the future and a set top box
should allow the PZ81 series pick up the Irish Channels.

I hope this gives you some clarity on the issue. If you have any
further questions please don't hesitate to contact me."

I think the person who replied was perhaps getting confused with MHEG5, and just assumed that it was supposed to be MPEG5, or something.

RTE will be using MPEG4 DTT, but also, I believe, MHEG5 middleware.

    From RTENL
Please note that, when launched, Irish DTT will use MPEG4 technology. The majority of UK "Freeview" boxes and iDTVs will not work.

In order to enjoy interactive services, the STB or iDTV must be equipped with MHEG5 middleware.
