right well my college mag has published 3 shots of the blizzards with out my concent, they have never even spoken to me, nor expressed interest in working with me, there was a wee article bout the and they decided, i think to google/flickr search for the blizzards and swiped 3 of my shots. considering this college teaches journalism and photography, you'd imagine they'd have some cop. chatted with some lectures, basically they told me to write to them demanding payment yadda yadda, put them in their place, i know thats the right thing to do, but i'd rather not alienate the channel closest to be for publication, any ideas on how to approach this issue, i aint gonna let it slide.

    Talk to them?

Tbh, it's Griffith College's mag, you're not going to lose out on the larger scale of things if you send them an invoice, especially after what they did.

Well... Talk to them first. They have to learn that they're being unprofessional.

It's all about approach, coming the heavy will alienate which you said you don't want.

I think you should talk to the right person and agree the resolution before sending an invoice, there may be another solution such as future work with proper accreditation.

Bear in mind this breach was probably down to an individual just wanting to do a great job on the mag, probably rushed off their feet, while management would not support anything other than professionalism, the reputation of the institution is a high priority.

There's really no call to get that person who overstepped the mark into big trouble, the win-win face-saver is to be magnanimous as the injured party, positive but firm. When you talk to the right person, leave it with them to verify the facts at their end and come up with a resolution.

The big win will be you coming out of it smelling of roses to people in high places, your reputation is on the line here too.

I'd just talk to your man, haven't met him myself yet I have to say. But their handy to do pics for. Katie who ran it last year got me my internship with the dubliner and now I'm gettin pretty regular paid work off them and their also putting me out to others as well which is great. I.E: I got asked to do the pics for an irish guide book by some american publisher but due to college etc I had to turn it down as it would have been bout three months of shooting all over the country.

But back to the original point haha, just say it to him.
