Rosslare to Cork

Quick question, as this is a route I've driven before and will drive in the future.

Normally I just take the N25 the whole route.

Would it now be faster to not bother crossing the bridge at Waterford, but to get on the N24 as far as Caher and take the M8 down to Cork??

It's 20 km longer but you get a lot of motorway and avoid Waterford city centre.

Anyone with experience of this route?

What time of day would you be passing though Waterford ?

Usually I take the evening ferry, so let's say about 8 pm. So the traffic in Waterford wouldn't be much of a problem.

But even so, would it be better to swing over to the M8?

You might want to think about if you are heading through waterford at 5/6pm... but at 8pm I think the normal route ...

Forget about taking the M8 until the Mitchelstown to Fermoy scheme is complete next April.

i always go via CLonmel coming to and from the Boat...but tyhen again I live in North Cork. When the new Waterford bridge opens, Im seriously considering going that way as far as dungarvan and then heading through Fermoy. (I hate the Mitchelstown to mallow section..).
