having read threads here and being fairly new to ireland, would be grateful for facts.

when we moved here, we were told, in the UK, that medical records there could not be accessed here without written permission from us?

In the UK when you change drs, your records are automatically sent on to the new dr; is it the same here, please?

Also who can access these records?

    Thank you

Interesting topic. I left the UK ages ago, and first moved to Germany and then the Netherlands. In both instances I was told by the UK authorities that I couldn't get my medical records transferred, and that they were the property of the government, or some such nonsense.

When I left the Netherlands, to move here, I got a nice neat printed record of my medical notes, plus all other correspondence between the doctor and specialists, diagnostic reports, hospital notes, the lot! What a difference, eh?

No idea what the form is here, but it does seem a bit silly to me to have my UK medical records from birth to 23 years old, languishing in some UK GP's surgery somewhere (I'm not even sure where now!) where I'll never visit again as long as I live, and have no access to them!

This does not surprise me one iota.

I tried for a long time to access my UK medical reports when I was sill in the UK, and they were obstructive, because they did not agree with the new legislation that allows patients to access the records.

    That is fine actually!

    Thank you!

But you can access them; that law was passed many years ago.
