Is this a PI for you, or a general discussion? If it's the latter this thread will be locked.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

They are a medication like any other.

Misuse or inproper prescription is dangerous, some are effective and others are less effective. Many practioners prescribe them as a stop gap mesure for people going through temporary rough patch and for completely misdiagnosed cases, both of which is very common and reckless practice in this country.

Im using antidepressants for the last 8 years or so, if i didnt use them i would be dead now, plain and simple, i suffer from Manic depression and use of the drugs helps me to stabilise my moods.

There are far too many people using anti depressants and drinking beer and spirits heavily which is senceless, it makes the effectiveness of the anti depressents neglegable.

There are also different types of depression, so antideoressants differ, its not a one size fits all solution.

One ignorant myth i want to dispel is that Anti depressants are addictive, or that they become less effective over time, this is rubbish, plain and simple.

Antidepressants are not the ultimate solution for depression or anxiety disorders, they are what i akin to a nicotine patch, will power and a proper frame of mind is essential in conjuction with proper medical assment and diagnosis along with ongoing cognative counciling.

Taking antidepressants and then abusing drink and recreational drugs hoping your problems will automatically go away is not a runner, a diabetic does not take their insulin shots and drink themselves into a bliss everyweekend and think everything will be fine - i knew a few diabetics like that.. they now are short a few essential limbs likes arms and legs because of the results.

ITS DIFFICULT TO GIVE YOU ANY MORE INFORMATION OR ADVICE BASED ON SUCH A BROAD QUESTION, HOWEVER ANTI DEPRESSANTS ARE A GREAT TOOL, BUT ONLY A TOOL, THEY ARE NOT THE FINAL ANSWER

Anti depressants are addictive in that coming off them causes bad withdrawal symptoms. I know that the drs say else, but that was my experience and that of many others.

I would never touch them again.

    Or any mind-altering meds.

Withdrawl symptoms and addiction are 2 completely different things.

True but you can't deny that it is the withdrawl symthoms that catalyses an addiction. It is the same for smoking. If you try to get the withdrawl symthoms will take over and make you want to have a cigarette. Of course these contain nicotine which is the addictive chemical but there are chemicals in all drugs which are probably somewhat addictive as the have some sort of effect on us when we take them.
